SOTD: Saturday 9th February - Friday 15th February 2019.

Saturday 9th February 2019 PM

Pre-shave:- Cold water rinse / Nivea Sensitive Face Wash / Proraso Red pre shave cream
Brush:- Executive Shaving Company Medium Jock Synthetic
Soap/Cream:- Wickam’s Buddha Wood soap
Razor/Blade:- RazoRock Hawk V2 / Schick Proline (3)
Post-shave:- Thayers Cucumber / Xtro Mare aftershave / Bart’s Balm Grapefruit and Pink Pepper balm

I had a not so great shave 2 nights ago, so poor that I didn’t post about it. I couldn’t figure out what I had actually done wrong but my skin was really tight with me repeatedly needing to add post shave creams throughout the evening and yesterday. These gave me some relief but around my mouth felt like I was about to burst out in cold sores. Really red, dry and sensitive to touch. Today things seemed to be on the mend and I really needed/wanted to shave, mainly to freshen myself up, but also to restore some of my confidence.

I went to the extent of rewatching some Mantic59 videos to see if I had started some bad habits.

If I’m being totally honest, I had. Rushing and starting to apply pressure on the blade, chasing too much hair reduction during my first passes.

This evening I slowed things right down. I’ve started missing out washing my face during my prep, something I brought back in tonight. Also preparing my lather too quickly - too rushed and slapping it on too quickly, rushing to get the razor working. Moving the razor too quickly in too short strokes, repeatedly going over the same area, chasing BBS.

This evenings shave is where I have been in the past and where I want to remain - chilled out, taking my time, enjoying the shave and reaping the rewards at the end - BBS with no irritation, no weepers. Totally enjoyable.

All the products I’ve listed above worked flawlessly. I got a hopping from foot to foot burn when I slapped on the Xtro but it calmed quickly - I do think my skin isn’t 100% recovered from the other night and this played a part in fanning the flames!

However, my confidence is returning and I’m slapping myself across the face with a wet fish for letting myself my standards drop.

I just want to say thanks for all the advice and help I’ve had so far!

I’m sitting here rubbing my face thinking how good wet shaving is - SE and DE!

Here’s to many more shaves like this folks! Have a great night!

Shaving recipe for today.

Prep: Hot shower:/ RightGuard ~ Energy Burst Shower Gel.

warm wet flannel to my face.

Pears ~ Transparent Soap.

Brush: unbranded Chinese Synthetic .

Bowl Lather.

Cream : Boots ~ Cool Cologne .

Blade: Derby Premium .(2)

Razor: Parker 98R.

Warm wet flannel/ cold wet flannel to rinse my face.

Cold Water Face Rinse./Homemade Lavender + Tea Tree Oil Witch Hazel Mixture./ Arko ~ Cool Cologne + Aftershave Balm .

Another very comfortable relaxing Sunday 3 pass + pick ups bbs shave with no errors to report.

The Parker 98R/Derby Premium duo paired together very nicely with no issues making an efficiently smooth duo. The derby premium sharp smoothness felt the same as it's first outing, after the bbs shave yesterday i only needed 2 passes + a pick up pass but carried on for the sheer pleasure. A superb shave making my sunday morning a pleasurable one.

Finishing the shave off with a generous dollop of Arko ~ Cool Aftershave Balm.

My face is feeling smooth & smelling devine.

Enjoy your sunday, ladies & gentlemen.

Gillette Rubie

proraso eucalyptus pre shave
proraso eucalyptus
Simpson Special Best Badger

proraso eucalyptus balm
proraso eucalyptus after shave

On repeat, from the speakers 'Such a night' from Elvis. And believe you me, appropriate!!

A few turns with the Arko stick true the Wimmie bowl for a solid base and a tuft of Proraso for the Simpson to turn into ... well just look at the picture.

Fresh Rubie blade in the good old ED89 and three lovely passes left daddy smoother than smooth can be.

A pile of mails to go trough but first a cappuccino with ....

Have a nice day everyone.

SOTD 20190210.

Vintage brush / Maggard synth.
Stirling "Wintergreen" shaving soap (sample).
Seygus "Zeppelin" V.2 (gap 0.9 mm).
Personna Lab Blue (8).
Alcolado Glacial.

Seygus Zeppelin - gap usage:
0.7 mm - 1
0.9 mm - 1

Used the Seygus with 0.7 mm gap yesterday, today the 0.9 mm gap:
The 0.7 mm gap felt better than the 0.5 mm - less efford for a little bit better result.
The 0.9 mm gap was just a bit too aggressive, and caused some small damage.
One or two days with a mild razor, then the 0.9 mm gap will have 1 more chance ...
Sunday 10th February

I haven't posted for a few days due to the on going Conjunctivitis which developed into an Opthamology Emergency due to my A&E missing a couple of corneal ulcers. I have been using fragrance and alcohol free products and razors which I could use blindfolded (which you could probably say....I was). The Creighton's cream is very slick and 3 passes gave me an excellent finish.
The Simple facial toner has been a good discovery. Full of lots of goodies like Lucky Tiger....but no fragrance and a fraction of the price!

Taylor of Old Bond Street Eton College Shaving Cream => this has a very elegant smell. And its other qualities are not too shabby either :)

Kent Blk 8 brush => I think this is a very interesting brush. Pair it with a hard soap and it fails miserably. Then again, put it next to a cream and it's a bad ass brush.

Gillette Super Speed with Gillette 7 O'clock green => one shouldn't change the wining team.

AS: Proraso Green => something more down to earth for a chilled back Sunday.

Have a great weekend, y'all!
