Nice razor nice soap pity the brush let it down ;):p

Friday afternoon (gym shave)

Soap - Cella
Brush - Omega Mixed Midget
Face lather
Razor - Wilkinson Sword Classic
Blade - Gillette Rubie #3
After shave - Proraso M&E

I hadn't used my Cella in ages; and it seems to have matured into a darker coloured soap. No matter though; great performance, along with the Midget.

My WS Classic resides permanently in a toilet travel bag, and did the biz today. Nice, smooth finish and a cool blast from the Proraso.

T&H No.10 Cleansing Scrub
CJB Kamisori & Kai Captain (1)
Gillette Fusion ProGlide Hydrating Gel
Hot Rinse & Cold Rinse
Pashana Original Aftershave
Pashana Original Hair Tonic

Smashing!

I've been shaving with GIllette's Fusion system for the last few months. My patterns of living have become somewhat changeable of late and so just getting a shave is done simply for the sake of getting a shave. It gives me five minutes of quiet but I can't be doing with anything else - no faff, no fuss, just wash (whatever soap), lather, shave, rinse off and that's pretty much it. Not even aftershave a lot of the time.

Today, I have time ...

I bought this CJB razor from @michaelg who sent it on promptly and well packaged. It's all I had hoped for, having had one in the past which I let go when I bagged a FEATHER Artist Club kamisori. Funnily enough, I hated the FEATHER! Too faffy by far, the thin round grip just didn't suit my big fingers which have long lost the fine sensation of feeling from chopping the ends off numerous times with kitchen knives. That aside, I rather lamented that I had sold the CJB. Years on, I get another.

I enjoyed the shave. You'll notice I carried on with the Gillette goo. I'm just used to it, so carried on. I've not used the Kai blades before and to be frank, I found this shave quite harsh. It may well be the angle, which I had to keep bringing back up to near parallel, or it may be a fresh sharp blade. Either way, I got shaved. I do one pass regardless of format. One weeper. Not at all bad! All sorted with a cold rinse and a good splash of Pash!

This is certainly a format I'll carry on with. Much enjoyed.

Razor : Fatip Grande Gentile
Blade : Wilkinson Sword
Brush : MÜHLE boar
Soap : De Vergulde Hand Extra Fris (Extra Fresh)
Alum : De Vergulde Hand
Aftershave : De Vergulde Hand balm

Today my new soap De Vergulde Hand Extra Fris (Extra Fresh) arrived, so I gave it a try.
When you open the tub the scent is slighty more present, not overwhelming.
It looked like I needed more water for bowl lathering then with the regular version, I'll check that the next days.
Conclusion : it's still a good soap but it costs at the moment €3, the regular cost nowadays also €3 in my country but some stores and webshops still sell for the old price €1,75. As long as you can buy the regular version cheaper then the fresh version I suggest to buy the regular

My themed shave for this day was titled 'No fun'

20190208_135820.jpg

No fun straight - Dovo 5/8 full hollow
Fun DE - Ikon B1 SB
No fun blade - Feather
Fun brush - Razorock 24mm Plissoft
Fun cream - Gentlemen's Tonic

'No fun my babe, no fun' sang the Sex Pistols. This really was a 'No fun my shave, no fun' with a straight trying to do its worst and a DE blade managing to achieve its worst. Yet oddly enough a really good very smooth bottoms outcome. Nice destination, terrible journey.

This was another 50/50 shave taking the straight as far as I could achieve and the Ikon achieving what I couldn't with the straight. Simple in principal and messy in practice.

The left hand side with the Dovo being a rip roaring success and the right hand side being just ripping. I just cannot get my coordination correct on the right side and what starts with good intentions ends up as a patchwork of half attempts. The only consolation being the Ikon is not far away. One dig in to my jaw line and thank God for styptic pencils. Not overly big but enough to have me down tools and rethink.

I am starting to think that this straight shaving may not be for me as I am sure I can gain far better and more comfortable shaves with either a DE or an SE. And all minus the fear factor. Perhaps I have overstepped the mark and I should stick with what I know. I can see a BST entry soon.

I guess to top it all the Ikon and the Feather are certainly not a match made in heaven. The Feather is far too much for what is already an aggressive beast. It is like giving Frankenstein's monster a set of vampires teeth just to make sure maximum damage can be incurred. As a result I suffered far too many little weepers which made me weep in frustration.

The big but though; is the end shave was incredibly smooth and I can't feel a single bad patch. Just not too pretty to look at this moment. Not as if I ever am anyway.

Mirror mirror on the wall who is the most handsome of them all?

Beaten by a mythical monster.

So a true 50/50 shave. Half and half with razor choice and a 50/50 result. All was saved by a happy haircut this afternoon and a nice chat with my pretty hairdresser. Oh, and she did make mention that the ADP Colonial Club is really lovely and classy. She makes me smile.

May you all have better shaves than I managed and may your faces look like baby bottoms.

And today yes, I felt cheated Johnny

PreShave: Warm water, from the tap
Cream: TOBS Sandalwood
Brush: Kent BK8
Bowl: My recycled cream bowl
Razor: The Sledgehammer (Merkur 39C)
Blade Polsilver si (7)
Post Shave: Alum

Fragrance: none—workday; but T&H Sandalwood when I returned home

Day 7 with the Polsilver, three more than my usual. It was still sharp and gave a great shave, although I was a bit rushed for time this morning. I'm beginning to quite like the Polsilvers, but I've got lingering concerns that they are about to become scarce (read expensive).

Back to Astras for the weekend, to continue my semi-scientific testing of blades I bought last year.

Have a good evening.

Friday 8th February

Brush - Omega 80265
Soap - Tabac Stick
Razor - Gillette Ball End Tech
Blade - Personna Red
Post - Alum
Balm - RSC
AS - Eyup Sabri Tobacco

First time using a ball end English Tech. It seemed the slightest bit more efficient than the Fat Handle Tech.

I'd not used Tabac for a while and I remember when I first used it the scent wasn't one I really liked but I've really grown to like it now.

Friday 8th February

YaqI Chianti 24mm Synthetic
Wickham 1912 Russian Leather
Ikon 101 / Bulldog
Gillette Silver Blue (1)
Blue Stratos Aftershave

My first run out with the Ikon 101, and I was quite impressed.
I didn't notice too much blade feel, and and audible feedback was quite noticeable.
Paired with a fresh Silver Blue it was smooth enough for my liking.
The Wickham soap as always performed without fault - protection and glide both in equal measure.
Finished with the nearest aftershave to hand - Blue Stratos. A good budget priced product with a scent I remember from my childhood.

The fresh version definitely needs more water for / with bowl lathering. Used both my Omega and MÜHLE brush. I also tried the regular version in the new packaging, that lathers still the same as the regular in the old packaging, fortunately they have not changed the soap.
