On to the Trumper creams and what better way to open than Limes? Also my first time using the R96 courtesy of a UK BST. This razor is an assertive girl and I picked up a few tiny nicks along the way - the first time in many shaves. She'll need to be handled with care. Also had a reaction to the ASL so my face is a little tender today.

Love My R96 I got mine in a swap, when I first had it it was a bit rough and when I looked at the blade there was a distinct "smile" in the blade. I contacted Muhle UK who were excellent and arranged a replacement head , the new head is perfectly straight and true, and for me it is what of the best Razors I own. Hope the face recovers quick, and that you get to enjoy the R96.

Hi Russ. Good shout on contacting Muhle. I'll give the razor another go tomorrow to se if I can dial it in any further and also check the blade alignment. Crazy that I shaved with an R41 the shave before with no issues but then struggled with the R96. I believe it's one of the earlier models (V2 or V3). Beautiful looking razor though.

A great shave today with the little Butterscotch E3, although not trying for BBS, the 3 passes were enough to achieve it and still keep my skin feeling comfortable, could my technique still be improving? I Hope so, i did have a superb Lather for the job. The Blade is also pretty good.
A very nice post shave although maybe not a great match for the soap. Hey Ho, i think i will try the CK Be next time and maybe a different balm.
I cannot complain about the result.

After a few days absence from this SOTD malarkey I have decided to return with the themed shave 'Who needs friends?'

A brush similar to one I gave a friend - Razorock 400
A fiendish friend - Gentleman's Tonic
A smelly friend - Goutal Monsieur

As someone once said, a friend in need is a pain in the ass.

@Rob998 ? What can I say about him? Not much except he can't half guzzle pints and he just happens to be a great friend in life and has been for quite some years now. Steals all sorts of expensive stuff from the house with no intention of ever returning anything, but I can live with that because he's a mate.....and did I mention can't half guzzle pints?

He is also waiting for me to drop dead so that he can get his hands on this........

You can wait a while longer and if you think feeding me burgers and beer is going to bring it all forward a few years then you are sadly mistaken.

This past Christmas Rob showed some gratitude for everything he has stolen and very thoughtfully bought me a new handle which I am made up with. Little things like this mean more than some gross piece of junk which would end up as E-Bay fodder and it has everyday function and practicality. A friend who thinks......................and guzzles pints.

So last night I went back to that old trusted friend the R89 and stuck it on the 'handle of guilt' and fed it some other old friends which I used to rave over in the past, if only to see if I was correct in my original opinions. An 89 with a Feather is a true piece of brilliance and I can certainly see why just about every SOTD from @udrako uses one. It does exactly what every other razor does, minus the fuss, the cost and without having to justify itself. I still love every other razor I own but if I was a practical man and could see through the woods I'd be very happy to have an 89 for life. Okay, I have owned four to date as two bit the dust when the threads parted their way, but hey, for the cost of a new head no tears shed.

The 400 brush remains a firm favourite and I swore I used to have a black version as well (Rob?). The Razorock 400 is a true budget brush with an expensive performance. I don't quite fully understand this brush thing and perhaps even less when something like the 400 does such a sterling job and I end up with a face full of great lather for peanuts. More so with the Gentlemen's Tonic cream which I will still stand by as being one of the most understated creams out there. If you haven't tried it, then you should.

Throw everything together in a mish mash of shaving fury and the end result was a shave made in heaven. Smoother than sliding down wet rubber.


To top it all off a few squirts of extravagance and the Goutal Monsieur. Heaven scent.

Yeh friends, aren't they great? Which is more than most will think of this............



And my original opinions still stand and each is a great piece of kit in its own right.
