Any which stand out overall when considering cost and quality? It's certainly a bit of a mine field with so much on offer so to speak; from the little research I've carried it would appear that the 400 TC seems to be considered the "sweet spot"?

My personal preference is 300 to 400 thread count in Percale. I like my sheets crisp like an expensive shirt. The other half buys 1000 thread count in Sateen for alleged softness.
The best so far are made in Portugal 300 thread count Giza 87 Cotton from the Cotton Collective. They have been out of stock for fitted white double sheets for over a year. They do have navy blue, but I think the company is being run down by the founder.

That's a good point Sabre, which I have not thought of previously. My last purchase as previously mentioned was from the King of Cotton and had a 800 TC and I have never personally found it to be that crisp. This may have been of course that it came up short and therefore could not be tucked under the mattress properly, to enable the sheet to be pulled taut so to speak. Must admit, I never realised that there was so much to bedding; but as with most quality items quite a lot of research is necessary in order to get something decent and also not overpay of course.

To be crisp it will need to be Percale, preferably in the 300 to 500 range. Sateen is soft and can be found as high as 800 to 1000 thread count or higher.

They will both need to be extra long staple cotton, usually Egyptian or Pima.

Cotton Collective use the 4th best cotton, Giza 87. Only Sea Island, Giza 45, and Giza 70 are better.

Thank you Sabre, another thing that I always wondered about and actually never knew the difference between Percale and Sateen; I believe that the King of Cotton sheets I previously purchased at 800 TC were in fact Sateen and explains why they probably never felt that crisp; I suspect many of the hotel sheets are actually in the Percale 300 to 400 TC range.

Here's a helpful guide.

As mentioned in the article, I am hot sleeper. So I prefer Percale. I dislike shiny cotton, it reminds me of polyester sheets from the seventies. So I am not a fan of Sateen.

Well finally all have arrived. Nine sheets including two flat sheets, two pillow cases and one duvet cover. All in Egyptian cotton, apart from one Pima cotton sheet.

I could have gone for one Peter Reed Sea Island cotton sheet from Harrods reduced from 1500.00 to 500.00. Sadly it is now out of stock.

I have hopefully purchased my last one, but at 16.15 including free shipping I couldn't say no. So a Feather and Black Egyptian 200 TC fitted sheet is coming my way...

Not a fitted sheet - the likes of which I'm not particularly fond of - but Dusk is worth a look. Although on pre-order, I've purchased a 400tc king size flat sheet from them which, with discount but a rather sorry £3.99 postage, comes in at around £27. And yes, I've spent a good amount on other bedding at Soak & Sleep and The Egyptian Cotton etc. - thanks @Sabre

So I looked at Dusk. At £22.23 for an Egyptian 200 TC fitted sheet including shipping I couldn't resist. Definitely the last one unless Rise and Fall have a sale.

Well I ordered 2 pillow cases and a flat sheet from Feather and Black as I was impressed with their fitted sheet. My other half has bought a Frette Poplin fitted sheet as belated birthday present.

I have unwrapped the Dusk and Feather and Black fitted sheets, they both feel great. Almost like very expensive shirts. I shall wash them tomorrow and hopefully have one on the bed tomorrow evening or the weekend.

Keep it going Sabre, I personally would be interested in your views one they have all been road tested, laundered and ironed etc, to learn of your thoughts overall with the selection you recently purchased. I have always gone for flat sheets rather than fitted; are there any other benefits to fitted sheets other than the obvious ie they fit and thus require less bed making time and of course remain taut?
