SOTD : Saturday 18th April to Friday 24th April 2020

Pre - Trumpers Sandalwood Skin Food
Cream - Sweyn Forkbeard - Vanilla and Tobacco Leaf
Brush - New Forest
Razor - Merkur 34G
Blade - Wilkinson (7)
Post - Alum, followed by Trumpers Sandalwood Skin Food

An OK shave, just a few areas on the bottom of my neck that aren't so smooth. They have always been problem for me whatever method I've shaved with. Oh, other than a Straight, and that was the only area I done well with that. I'm trying to reduce passes to see where I can improve on the first two. Still was two passes plus touch-ups for the third.

Happy Friday Amici! Though it might not feel the same, for the sake of some semblance of normality it's the weekend! Today's razor of choice is my 1960 Gillette Adjustable...yup, a Fatboy Friday! Loaded up with a Gillette Platinum and set to 4 for a very nice and easy shave.

Soap of the day is Italian Barber Amici which is the Italian word for friends. Great Spring and Summer scent for sure! Grapefruit, lemon and orange mixed with some spice. Though it is dull and dreary here I have Spring in my heart! Lovely scent and a great performing soap.

Lovely and leisurely three pass shave. Smooth as can be. Topped it off with some Acqua di Parma Colonia Essenza. Torn between it and the original as both could easily be my signature scent.

Enjoy the day and enjoy your weekend. Stay safe.

Suprisingly good lather from this cheap cream. Initially not much with the brush in the bowl but slowly added water and turns into a great creamy lather. Very mild scent but wow on creaminess and slickness. Unbelievable slick. Some menthol feel on face too. Shave with this razor paired with blade was really good. Smooth and sharpish. Enjoyed the passes. 3pass WTG, XTG & ATG + small buff on neck. Very nice passes today. Able to go ATG under jawline but some weepers & creepers. Ice water rinse so good followed by Thayers. BBS result with 9.5/10 rating.

SOTD Friday, April 24, 2020

This morning I decided to shave with one of the more neglected razors in my rotation, and probably one of the best values in wet shaving today, the Fine Accoutrements “Marvel” DE safety razor. It is aptly named! I bought it for my youngest grandson, this last October, but his father, my oldest son had already gifted him with the OneBlade Core that I had gifted to my son! Go figure! In any case, Ben, my son, had already upgraded to the OneBlade Genesis, so there I was, stuck with what I thought was just another ho hum starter razor.

Since we were headed for Tybee Island, one of my favorite places in the world, I brought the new razor along after mailing myself some DE blades. I had already disposed of the slippery Chrome handle that came with the razor and replaced it with the extra Occam's SS DE Barber pole handle I had lying around. The combination worked beautifully, and the razor head design delivered a beautiful unexpected BBS. I was sold! I used it daily for the remaining 13 days of that vacation, and put the razor into the regular rotation.

For today's shave, I loaded the Marvel with a fresh Suneko blade, soaked the tips of my Omega Pro48 Boar brush in warm water, and had my shower. I began the shave with my regular cold water rinse. I then added 3 drops of M-Bomb to my Mentholated Kapo shave cream, and whipped up a glorious cooling lather which was then applied to both face and dome. Two and a half passes (WTG, XTG, ATG) later put the baby to bed, leaving me with a lovely BBS. The Alum revealed some slight heat at the location of yesterday's weep below my Adam's Apple, but otherwise, the Marvel left me feeling cool, smooth, clean and refreshed!

RAZOR: Fine Marvel DE Head w/ Classic Shaving's SS Barber Pole Handle
BLADE: Suneko
PREP: Cold water rinse
BRUSH: Omega Pro48 Boar Brush
CREAM: Kapo Menthol salted w/ 3 drops of M-Bomb
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with Glyce Glycerin soap followed by Thayers Lavender WH and Stirling Iced Pineapple AS Splash. Finished with A&E Post-Shave Serum

Rooney Emillion 1 Porcelain Finest (24/51)
Penhaligon's English Fern shaving soap (tallow)
Paradigm 17-4
Gillette Super Stainless 'Spoiler' (7)
Houbigant Fougère Royale aftershave (vintage)

The blade was dragging, even in the ultrasmooth 17-4 and with great lather, so it was tossed out. Just not very durable for me.

That mug looks absolutely perfect! Like a big lathering cauldron! Where'd you get your hands on it?

SOTD 24 April 2020

Pre-shave: Cold water splash, followed by Jack Black Epic Moisture MP10 Oil.
Cream: Geo F Trumper Almond Shaving Cream.
Brush: Muhle Silvertip Fiber.
Bowl: Giles Shaving Co - Spotty Pedestal.
Razor: ATT Calypso M1.
Blade: Personna Blue (Day 1).
Post: Cold water splash, Floid Vigoroso Aftershave.
EDC: Geo F Trumper - Havanna.

First run out with the ATT Calypso M1 - I was intreged after seeing @Digimonkey 'marathon' stint shaving with this recently - decided to give into the RAD. 2 1/2 days growth - postie delivered just before 13:00 - SWMBO was tucked away upstairs - parcel unboxed without any dissruptions ;-)

A very plesant afternoon shave followed - first pass felt divine, although it did not feel as if much stubble had been removed - a second pass XTG same again, expected more stubble to have been shifted - another XTG and a final ATG pass with a DFS finish.

I did not find the Calypso M1 as efficient as the ATT M1 with a Personna blade; in part I was surprised, as I find the Hone 15a performs just as efficiently as the Hone 15.

No complaints, its early days. I feel that this is going to be a fun razor - I have looked out a Feather blase for tomorrow's shave - I'll be interest to see if a sharper blade increases the efficiency - and having shaved today how the Calypso performs.

I felt that the Calypso was incredibly smooth - my skin felt amazing post shave.

The Trumper's Havanna was a nice end to the shave - spicy and fresh.

I hope that everyone is safe and well.

All the best,

Chris

Thanks - I would have thought that you ought to be on that list too - I'm enjoying your recent Japanese lady thrash sound track set against strictly monochrome images period - nice. Have you run out of colour paint? Ha ha. There are several other contributors that - for me - are superb photographers - I think - 80 percent of what makes a good sotd image - is that - the picture was taken in the first place - cheers - I.

To be honest every photo on the SOTD is a winner for me. In a similar ilk to yourself, it is the effort which makes it. I just chose the posters from the prior six or so otherwise it would have taken several hours to include every contributor as they are all deserving.

:)

I do like juxtapose.

Me? I'm rubbish. My youngest granddaughter says so, hence I must be

There is coloured paint?
