Shave of the day Saturday 22nd - Friday 28th July 2017

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

vintage nondescript two band badger inna see through handle
Schick F type/Schick Plus Platinum NOS 1990ish
older Coates lime SC
Neutrogena oil free moisture
no EdT for whatever the reason

This silly little brush has been quite a find and I would like to know the maker but no markings. Whips up a great lather using the Coates, which is an excellent cream for me anyway. Matter of fact I just ordered another 2 pounds combo of the lime and some rose. Runs me a buck an ounce.....shipped! Pretty crazy for the product received and this will be yet another reorder from this gentleman. Scent is subdued but you can't have everything. Rose has a bit more pop and it's a dry rather than sweet frag.

Jeez Louise, this F type is a treat. Darn thing about took me over a while back.....could not stop getting it wet almost every day. Toppled my favorite Schick adjustable that had been great for years. Yep, first time I tried that crazy Frankenrazor looking contraption was a revelation and the adjustable got put away. Made of 3 different metals all kinda stuck together.

That particular handle shape lends itself to creative grips, in a good way. Lots of options for various strokes. The aluminum adds a bit of heft, but still a light razor so sometimes a slight bearing down's needed in a few tough places. This old blade's pretty sharp and helps me focus by causing the rare tiniest of warning 'zings' before something bad happens and then I can either stop or recover, so it's a forgiving blade.

Heh, a fresh blade and no color in my lather. This razor/blade combo isn't quite the most aggressive but still plenty of fun.

smoother than usual BBS results,

Martin

Razor - Merkur Progress (4)
Blade - Lodz Polsilver (1)
Brush - Maseto 24mm Finest
Soap - Wickham's Cashmere (sample)
Post - Witch hazel
A/S - Artic Kinesia
Balm - Floid

Result -

Great - taking off 6 days growth. It amuses me when I let my beard grow out this much - it's mostly grey and silver now, doesn't bother me at all - what does intrigue me is that my head hair hasn't changed colour at all - such as it remains. I happily used the 37 slant for my last few shaves and had the Ikon X3 on deck for tonight but thought the better of it - given the heavy growth - it's a great razor but perhaps not suitable for the job? Merkur Progress, turned up half a notch than I would usually use it - paired with a fresh Polsilver. Job done - I've had my head turned by the Variant recently but you should never forget where you started, the Progress remains a first class razor for me. There's a reason they still sell so many of them - design unchanged - to this day. The 1912 Cashmere is a wonderful soap - the scent! I wondered what to do with the sample - in its impossibly small tub? (Maybe it was just far away? - Father Ted reference) - but thankfully it dropped out the container cleanly and I pressed it into a small lather bowl. No problem. I own one of the 1912 soap base versions - very good - but the scent of the Cashmere. Did I say that already? A full tub will be ordered with the matching splash when funds are liberated. I've never seen the Artic Kinesia after shave for sale outside of Spain. It's cheap as chips and very good for me. I enjoyed that shave - I hope you enjoy yours - cheers - I.

Thanks B - @Burgundy - for the soap.

Doug - I have been intrigued by the soap you have been using recently - specifically the name. I can only assume there is another Montrose beach somewhere else in the world - somewhere warmer - not the the one on the east coast of Scotland? Nice as it is - I've been there and I don't remember palm trees or azure waves. Ha ha. - yours - I.

Traveling just with the R41 for a few days, now in Siem Reap. The only blades I've seen in Cambodia are the BIC Chrome Platinum, two tucks for a dollar. First head shave with the BIC was marvelous, better than first shaves with the Personnas and Astra in this razor for sure.

Same phenomenal results today with the BIC/R41. Most people seem to dislike the BCP but at ten cents a blade I'm buying more. Now to go full on Andy Rooney, did ya ever notice how poorly the R41 disperses lather? It's the cloggiest razor I've ever used by a mile. I took it apart twice to clean the blade. Look at the design of this thing, lather channels where are you? What's with the fake comb?

Prep: Shower and Bulldog Face wash
Blade: Astra SP #1
Wolfman Guerrilla: Pass around loan
Brush: Maseto Finest 30mm
Soap: T&H 1805
EDT: Issey Myake

This evening was the first time using this razor. What a beauty she is @Blademonkey . A lovely 3 pass shave without any hassle. The weight of the handle done all the work for me. No pressure no burns, Lovely. If I had any concerns then it would be the loading of the blade and perhaps the handle is a little slippery but aside from that this razor really is super smooth. (Full review to follow.) BBS and a delight to use. :)
The soap as always worked its magic. I really do love T&H soaps. The cushion, scent and glide is sublime.
I have both the silvertip and the Finest Maseto 30mm brush and if I had to choose one then it would be the finest. More backbone and the same softness as the silvertip. YMMV.
Finishing with a good dose of Issey Myake which matches wonderfully with the 1805 and I am good to go.
Enjoy your shaves,

Wayne :)
I'm pleased to hear this Wayne, please keep me informed regarding this razor , I hope I have spent my money wisely and it works well for me :)

image.jpg ~SOTD~ 26th July Wednesday

Up before the lark this morning hoping a hot shower would ease the pain in my shoulder, it helped with a handful of pain killers but seeing as I was warm and hydrated I thought I would get a shave in.

Razor....Schick E2, my favourite Schick razor by far.
Blade....Schick Proline B-20, a more forgiving blade than the chick.
Soap....Dusy~Kabinett , just as good as the Klar Kabinett imo.
Bowl....a Little Wren pottery, just the right size to really go at it.
Brush....Semouge OC boar, a fab litte brush that will lather anything.
Post....BBA post shave balm, possibly the best in the world YMMV!
Post....Jojoba oil, sinks in fast and leaves no oil slick on your face.
Scent....forcast for wind and rain today so out comes the Oud 24 hrs.

After whipping some of the Dusy into a creamy slick lather I set to work with the E2 which has been tamed a little by the B-20 and now has some maners and I can whip it around my face with gay abandon with little fear of cutting myself and I didnt, I was left with skin so smooth and free of stubble, a great combo is the E2 and B-20.

I think what you do post shave is just as important as the prep, BBA post shav balm is for me a wonder product and once it has been well rubbed in I apply a few drops of Jojoba oil for moisturising , my sikn has never looked so good.

A liberal body spray of Oud 24 hours and I'm done, smelling like a black orchid! :)

As always I wish you a wonderful day despite the weather......:)

Tuesday 25th July
Wedding anniversary shave (36 years)
Body shop synthetic
P&B Vegan trial soap
Gillette Guard #6
Tabac A/S
Lacura body moisturiser
Al Rehab - Al Fares EDP

Still at our holiday retreat, the Gillette Guard is performing admirably.
As the P&B trial soap was unscented I experimented by adding a few squirts of Al Rehab - Al Fares EDP to the lathered soap in the bowl. It produced a wonderfully scented lather which resulted in a lovely smooth shave.
Hope you both had a nice Day.
Mike
