I've got one of these. I didn't realise they were that old.

You shouldn't feel let down by this one m8. Looks mint and my own one shaves nearly as well as my 1912.

I actually think my Gem shaves better than my 1912
Well, yes, actually so does mine in all honesty. I just popped that one in there because I do so love to imagine F/Billy with that purple, shaven head swelling and all those popping dilated veins popping up all over it. I'm an old duffer and I have to get what little harmless amusement remains to me whilst I can. And I doubt very much that Billy grudges me my smiles where I can find them.

I was move by this thread to have a change this morning and dug out my Featherweight. After carefully trouser-stropping a new blade (they tend to be a bit rough at first shave) I enjoyed an excellent shave. Really nimble razor!
These Blades are Not Meant to be Stropped..You can Do that & that's Fine..It Will Dull the Edge & that's Why they Feel Smoother...I have Never had a Rough Shave yet with a New Gem Blade in a Featherweight...Like all later Gem Models these were Designed for a Current Gem Blade..I'll have to try that stropping before using my next new Gem!
Alas, we all have skins of different toughness. Mine needs to have almost any blade rendered a bit milder (or blunter if you will) for comfort. The material of my trousers does the job just fine. I don't recommend the procedure to others but will continue to use it for myself. These Blades are Not Meant to be Stropped..You can Do that & that's Fine..It Will Dull the Edge & that's Why they Feel Smoother...I have Never had a Rough Shave yet with a New Gem Blade in a Featherweight...Like all later Gem Models these were Designed for a Current Gem Blade..

Yeah..Sure..Thats Why in the Old Days they Palm Stropped the Old Stropping Blades..It was Never to get them Sharper..The Purpose of the Exercise was to Smooth them Out..All this Stropping Modern Factory Blades to Keep an Edge on them Longer is Pure Fallacy & Down Right Bull..Alas, we all have skins of different toughness. I have always understood honing/sharpening to provide the edge and stropping to remove irregularities in it...I've seen quite a few things on'tinterweb that suggest extra life can be given to multiblade cartridges by stropping them on denim jeans (running the blades backwards across the jeans about 20 times). It's my guess that the people who do this don't prolong the life of the blades but feel a slightly smoother shave.Yeah..Sure..Thats Why in the Old Days they Palm Stropped the Old Stropping Blades..It was Never to get them Sharper..The Purpose of the Exercise was to Smooth them Out..All this Stropping Modern Factory Blades to Keep an Edge on them Longer is Pure Fallacy & Down Right Bull..
