or the first family car you remember.

Ford Anglia Estate

Dark blue, 1200cc. The smell of vinyl and either sliding or sticking to the rear seats, the car was side swiped by a lorry so it stayed in the back garden where I "practiced" driving until insurance coughed up twenty quid.

My Dads only ever had Land Rovers, the real ones (Defender/110) he's on around his tenth now spanning over 50 years. Always lived in London and never done any serious off roading but he loves them and so do we:)

ah - that would be the Dark Blue Vauxhall Viva HA saloon (no less).

how that thing ever made it to Cornwall and back is beyond me, especially after the incident where the exhaust fell off at around the halfway point and was held on by black tape. Sadly gone the way of all things - but I still have the "viva" badge !

The first family car I remember was this:

My Dad bought two consecutive ones, both brand new. He's 6ft 7' and it was one of the few cars he fitted in.

He sold it in about 1980 and even then had buyers snapping his hands off. I think he actually sold it for less than it was worth.

And what did he replace this automotive icon with?

Well i was brought up living with my Grand parents after my Father was killed in a mining accident in 1963 and my Grandfather always liked big cars and we had a huge Jaguar MK10 which was like driving around in a king size bed lovely. These are a few more of his collection i remember, Ford Zodiak Mk3 and Humber Hawk.

Wow, that's one of my absolute favourite cars! I love old jags.

If you like those old Jag's Dipesh you would love my Uncle Mike's car history. Strangely enough i grew up looking at a lot of nice motors but never really turned into a petrol head, even today i only ever really lust after four cars, a Aston Martin DB5 GT, a Mercedes 300SL Gullwing, Ferrari 250GTO and a Mk1 Ford Escort Mexico 2000, but my oldest boy Liam as always been car mad.

Mk2 E Type fixed head
Humber Super Snipe
Mk2 Juguar
MG Magnette
Merc 280 SE coupe

Triumph Herald.

My Grandad was a bouncer in London in the 50's and 60's, working at the Hammersmith Palais and in really tough places like Cricklewood and Kilburn. He often acted as a chaufer for some characters and got to drive their flash motors round.

He even managed to catch the eye of a very high class 'madame' when he was working near Marble Arch and got to drive her all round town in her Jag for a few months.

A 1972 Brown MK1 Capri 2.0 GT (PPK 320L), with Black Vinyl Roof and Leather Interior !

I remember me and my best mate Jamie at the time used to feel really cool being taken to school in it...

Remember my mum hated it as like myself it hated waking up on cold winter mornings, and i do remember many push starts before school !!!!

IanM - snap on the Morris 8 tourer. I think that there are still a few bits for it in the shed.

First car I remember was a Vauxhall VX 4/90 in dove grey and crimson. That was a nice car.

Dad tells me that his first car was an Austin 7, it came as a box of bits that my Dad built up over the course of a week.

When I was a baby he had an Austin heavy 12

Apparently Mum and Dad used to be able to wheel the pram into the rear passenger compartment:-

Dad also had an Austin Healey Sprite (Frogeye)

The first car that I can remember was a Wolseley 16/60

Dad then had various Morris Minors and Ford Cortinas before buying a Range Rover which he kept for many years........

I can remember my dads first brand new car as it brings back some very bad memories. He was a sparky in a coal mine in South Africa and changed jobs to go and work offshore on the rigs. After his first stint away he came back home with, what was then, a massive pay cheque. He went to the local Nissan dealership and bought a brand new car with cash, it was his pride and joy. One unfortunate day after my dad had been playing darts at his local, one very silly little 4 year old found said darts lying in the kitchen, can you tell whats coming? His pride and joy ended up with some aftermarket go faster stripes and more than a few extra holes which I thought added nicely to the stripes, my dad most definately did not agree. I know it's frowned upon by most nowadays, but I can clearly remember what happened to little boys who carried out such acts 30 plus years ago. In fact I can still clearly remember not being able to sit down for quite a few days and every time I heard my dads voice I got a little nervous. I can't say I blame him and surprisingly enough it also gave me a new found respect for other peoples property, something which remains with me to this day.

The first car that I can remeber my dad having was a yellow Vauxhall Viva, like this.
His first car was a Mini 850, then he had some old work vans, until he got promoted and got his first proper company car. I can remember him getting this and being really proud of his new car.
