x10 automation?

Hi guys,
thinking about adding some home automation to switch on-off lights. X10 has been around for ages in the USA but very slow to take off in Europe. Looking at the hardware available i'm rather surprised there's no 'networked' solution to X10 that does away with having a PC on 24/7.

Anyone got X10 modules and transceivers installed in their house? Is it worth buying X10 equipment or is there newer technology on the way?

*btw: i'm thinking about the CM15Pro transceiver with some modules for table lamps, unless there are better alternatives you recommend.

I've been looking into home automation for a while now, X10 is very US centric, so quite a few modules are not available for EU countries.
X10 protocol is a bit dated too, so probably not the best solution.
Zwave protocol seems interesting...
Have a look on the UK forums/blogs like, http://www.automatedhome.co.uk/

This is a UK company that makes HA: http://www.idratek.com/
They're quite popular from waht I gather. Could be interesting for you.
(UK centric, so no use for me)

@FB, thanks for that information. Quick browse and it looks like z-wave is more what i'm looking for in home automation. This looks like a wifi solution i want in my system.
