Well they say there's a fool born every minute! I have noticed very inflated prices by American sellers on the Bay with some of their shaving products, especially some razors from the 1950s.

I don't consider it that overpriced, there are 6 of them, for 300, that makes $50 a piece or 30 GBP, for a new unused item.
(I would pay 30-35 quid for 1 in that condition)
It's a lot of money, but not outrageous in my opinion. It will sell at that price.

Max

p.s. can we please stop posting everything we see on eBay? I think there was something said about that not long ago.
(no posting active auctions)

Well frenchblade if you dont think those prices are inflated, then I will say there must be a lot of people out there would love to sell a few things to you, because I certainly wouldn.t pay those prices.

Jamie,

We're talking NOS/NIB, they're always a lot more expensive, a normal one of these in good condition is only a couple of quid, I agree.
NOS/NIB has a collectors value, and thus the price is in my opinion not overly expensive.
The fact that it comes with the display stand is also something to be considered.

Then again, I find the price of fatboys outrageous, where mint ones (not even boxed), will fetch up to $ 100.

It's an item you might not find again in similar condition, if the seller was selling them off individually, I'd buy one for my collection.

Well as iv'e already said the USA market is greatly inflated , now take a look at what you really should be paying for such item?

Jamie.

That's a Techmatic/Instamatic, not the same model & can't get blades for them anymore. The injector ones you can still get blades for.
It's like comparing superspeeds and fatboys.

If you have a NOS/NIB injector like in the first auction, let me know, I'll take it of your hands for 30 quid.

well Max I buy and sell a fair bit on Ebay, and I will certainly keep my eyes open, and if one comes up I will give you a shout. but the blades for the injector and that razor you are talking about are so numerous on the Bay, I assure you that you will get them far cheaper than £30 each.

Jamie

There's a 'make an offer' option so the price you see isn't the price you pay.

A collector will certainly pay something very close to the asking price though.

As someone who has sold over 20,000 items on ebay in the last 5 years, I can absolutely state without a doubt, that any item is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. This listing may seem hugely overpriced, but it will only appear that way to those who would not pay that amount for it. For those who would pay that amount for it, it may seem extremly attractive!

The seller I would imagine knows his/her market, and has pitched their price accordingly.

Spot on that man ;)

I totally except you have sold over 20.000 items on Ebay over 5 years professer Blighty, but I also have sold many things on the bay for longer than five years, but we are talking about a Schick razor so I would care to know how many of these you have sold? for those prices I would guess none, you only need to put that word in your search on the Bay to realise that they are very much two a penny, and the ones you are talking about £30 each well I will say it again there's one born every minute!

Jamie

Jamie,

The principle of buying remains constant no matter what you're selling. If someone wants the item, and they then percieve it to be affordable, they will consider buying it. Whether the rest of the world thinks it's over priced is irrelevant. Not everyone will think this is a bargain, but then it's not aimed at everyone is it? It is aimed at the collector who will value such an item with a completely different perception.

I have to agree with what Max and the Prof said earlier. I have bought and sold many razors on ebay, when buying I bid what I think things are worth. But when selling I let them market find it's level.
To a collector condition, original packing, instructions etc. are paramount and they will pay top money for these.
To give you a couple of examples, I sold a complete as new 40"s tech set for £40.00, I picked one up missing its price card for £2.00.
I have seen Gillette British Aristocrats go without a case or with a tatty case go for £50.00, mine was in an unusual case made only for 1 year ........it fetched over £200.00.
I also have 2 Gillette Presidents, one I got from Dodgy (Martian/Marvin/Martin.........he has multiple personalities..... )......which was badly replated by a company for him, but I paid the correct money for it and it shaves well. I also have a Prez in it's original card shipping box, original case, instructions, blades (verified by date) and this will fetch 10 times what I paid for the one I use.
So you see what you may think is a ridiculous price may be a bargain to the right collector.
Why do we sell on ebay, to make money......... ;)
Why do we buy on ebay...........to get what we want...........so if you don't want it then leave it alone. Someone will buy them and split them. If I had the spare cash I would and make a tidy profit from doing it as well.
