Why did I want to fix it? It wasn't broken!

Well I tried to do a firmware update on my LG Android phone and ended up in "Emergency Mode" and nothing would work to get it out. Factory reset key press does nothing, I can't re-flash because the PC does not recognise that the phone is attached.

Its going out to LG under warranty tomorrow so that's a couple of weeks away, I will still have a phone as I can use an old one and I can get by with my ipaq as I used but why did I bother trying to update is it ever worth the risk?

If it's working, I tend to leave it alone.

My working day is already filled with people who have upgraded stuff and not considered the consequences. They upgrade their O/S and then complain to me that our product no longer works with their PC -"well, it's not designed to work with your new O/S, Sir."

Mac users are the worst culprits.

So, to answer your original question - it's a gamble. You weigh up any benefits that you might gain, and make the decision

well its a bit of a pain but at least I will it will be fixed. Sorted out my calendar on my iPAQ now so it won't be a problem but not so easy.

hmm..nothing wrong with updating your phone if there is an update..though sounds like if your phone went into emergency mode..maybe the sim card needs to be taken out n put back in..worked for my iphone

have a root around XDA developers

there will be a forum for your specific device.Loads of good dev stuff available to unbrick phones etc

Well I'm impressed, I mailed it in the RMA envelope which they sent me last Thursday and the Posty handed it back to me today. Unbricked and firmware updated, Life's Good :p
