what brush for new DE shaver

I think brushes are largely just a matter of learning to use them (unless they are just shedding too much). My first brush was a $10 VDH boar and it's still as good as any other brush I have. I got a vintage boar and a vintage badger. They're all good. I tend to use the badger with creams and boars for soaps.

They all put soap/cream on the face so what else are they supposed to do?

I don't want it to feel like I am pressing a hedgehog into my face

The handle is OK. Functional, but nothing special. Wouldn't say it felt cheap though, feels solid enough and has a good weight to it.

I as a beginner I think I want to experience the difference between the different types of brush. A mixed brush wont really teach me anything. Although it probably makes a nice brush

I don't have an hedgehog brushes. All of them are made for shaving. I understand the more sensitive types may need more of a powder puff though.

This is what I have as my first brush for DE shaving. It's starting to feel good on the face. The first few shaves were a little uncomfortable with it. Now it's a lot softer and more comfortable. It'll get even better over time.

My brother got a DE razor and cream from Santa, but no brush so I grabbed one for him. After much consideration I went for the Vulfix 404 'bodger' -- he won't worry about different types.

Not as big as the Omega 48/49, cheaper than a badger and good rep.

If I had longer I'd probably have gone for a RazoRock synth. Apparently mine from Santa is somewhere over the Atlantic due to USPS being useless (ordered 10th Dec!). Update, my Big Bruce has just arrived.

I think you will always loose some from a new brush. But if that continues past 4 or 5 uses then that is not good

My MÜHLE 25mm synthetic lost about a dozen during the first four shaves and I got really concerned. Nothing since - and it's now my top brush. No other synthetic lost a single bristle ever...
