What are you listening to?

not me Jamie but Huey Morgan (ex fun loving criminals)on 6 music Saturday morning.

Other than he was allowed his head more on his old Sunday afternoon show,
I really cant fault him :)

Apparently he does a show on radio 2 late night, where I expect none of the controllers are listening. I keep meaning to record it.

just got back from a regular spot in a Pub in Walthamstow and The floaters made an appearance. also Sam and Dave but I played hold on Im coming.

A Taste Of Honey is without doubt going to appear next week Fox :)

I like people who don't hold back and noticed your reply to the birthday thread, the need to help spend some money. Your reply made me go, Oooo then laugh. :D

As a friend once said, "I like my cheeses like my ladies, without blue veins showing."

So Mr Fox, must be the easiest sample to figure out. This is the original Salsoul Record but who did the original remix ? No prize as its just too easy.........:icon_razz:

Some amazing stuff put out on Salsoul Records !!

You sure do have a fine taste in music Steve I can see like me you were one of the old soul crew, I must admit to being one of the old Northern soul team I went to many all night dances there use to be a great one in Yate near Bristol and the obvious daddy of them all Wigan, there was also some all day soul meetings in Bournemouth which always produced some rather nice ladies down from London which were always a nice distraction for the Boys from the valleys. :)

So as there are so many knowledgeable music fans here,
do many of you listen to BBC 6 Music?

The week day fare is pretty bland , you might as well be listening to Radio 2
but come the specialist shows in the evening and weekend you get
to hear some real gems.

Cerys Matthews is on right now playing folk,
early americana, blues and reggae (basically all folk music)

I get a little evangelical about it.

Jamie, I challenge you to listen right the way through without
blubbing like a big girls blouse.

Maybe because I'm living in London I cant.

Cerys has a beautiful voice especially when singing in her native tongue, but my favourite would have to be Charlotte Church singing Suo Gan the most beautiful Welsh Lullaby ever written.

To my lullaby surrender,
Warm and tender is my breast;
Mother's arms with love caressing
Lay their blessing on your rest;
Nothing shall tonight alarm you,
None shall harm you, have no fear;
Lie contented, calmly slumber
On your mother's breast my dear.

Here tonight I tightly hold you
And enfold you while you sleep,
Why, I wonder, are you smiling
Smiling in your slumber deep?
Are the angels on you smiling
And beguiling you with charm,
While you also smile, my blossom,
In my bosom soft and warm?

Have no fear now, leaves are knocking,
Gently knocking at our door;
Have no fear now, waves are beating,
Gently beating on the shore.
Sleep, my darling, none shall harm you
Nor alarm you, never
And beguiling those on high.

At a guess I hear quite a few samples taken from this, the most prominent first.

Black Box - Ride on Time
Shades of Rhythm - Sweet Sensation
I can't put my finger on it but there sounds like another rave/house/dance track there. "Relight my fire type" track.

Its a great track and one that I have heard recently and oddly thought it might of been a follow up from Black Box, had no idea it was the original that Ride on Time was sampled from. Thank for the share and heads up on Salsoul records, I will look into this label a bit more.

I had this on this morning while I was shaving and getting ready, forgot what a great track it is, and another sampled to death too.

This track was on the radio in the car earlier and a great track by the Miss Deniece Williams.

When I think of her I always think of this duet with Johnny Mathis though.

This brings me nicely on to this song which for me is a huge classic. I sung this on karaoke out in Barbados, a very funny and unforgettable experience.

Have a good Sunday folks! :D

EDIT it came to me Steve, it was also sampled by El Chico - House Music Lovers, that was annoying the hell out of me. Now I don't know if this was in turn sampled by The Mixmaster in Grand Piano or the other way around? In fact the more I think about it, "Sweet Sensation" lyric part was heavily sampled by the rave scene, there are some other tracks I can think of too. But here is El Chico, enjoy!

That really was pretty. I don't usually go much for Chazzers voice as I usually like a bit of gravel, but she really suits Sou Gan.

and as for over sampled chaps
