Tabac Man

After much humming and hawing I took a stab and ordered some Tabac Man, I love Tabac so this was worth a shot, it was $19.90 and I got a shipping discount for ordering two scents, shipping was $7 each so total $26.90 (about £18).

What to say about it…..

Have you ever been to a steak house and ordered chicken or seen someone doing so? You might think “What’s the point?, they are good at steak, if you want chicken go to Nandos”. However not wanting to exclude any customers even specialist restaurants iffer a range of foods steak houses offer chicken and chicken places offer steak etc. What has this got to do with Tabac???????

When I got it in the mail I was very impressed, it comes in a sturdy no nonsense black box and the bottle is like a little hand grenade, it even has a knurling round the lid as if to make it easier to pull the pin before you let this one loose. All this strong subliminal messaging had me salivating at the thought of a new twist to Tabac, like a punch in the face but a friendly one.

When I put it on at first I have to say was very disappointed, bearing the hallowed Tabac name I expected the steak that is Tabac, I expected a pungent smell initially that died down to a musky sweet smell but strong in body and not lacking in individuality, masculine and purposeful. What I got was something that if I was blindfolded and asked to sniff it could have came from any of the perfume houses you see at the airport, an almost metro sexual scent in comparison to that I expected (wanted).

Luckily I had taken the precaution of purchasing the missus a bottle of Herve Leger which she loves and all questions about when this order was placed were avoided. In truth she doesn’t care, if anything she eggs me on.

However now I am a couple of uses in I have realised that while I am sitting in this steak house eating chicken it is actually pretty good chicken. It hold’s it’s own with any of them out there in terms of modern scents and in itself is not a bad aftershave, in fact it is good. If I try really hard there is a twang of Tabac among the mix of scents. Tabac Man is quite light, not terribly long lasting on me but it is a nice enough as an aftershave, just nothing like Tabac.

If you are going to but this, don’t buy this because of the expectations Tabac may have set. Tabac Man is an inoffensive scent they have produced to cater for a wider market. I think this is a wise move but I think it should have been marketed under a different branding/name and made it stand on its own. I have seen there is also a Tabac Silver which if what I read is true is even lighter so I am going to avoid this unless I am in Germany or see a tester for a couple of quid.

Overall a good aftershave, it is on the side if a very light musk scent but fresh and clean with it.
