SOTD : Saturday 09th May - Friday 15th May 2020

Sotd - Tuesday the 12th of May -

Picture the scene - sitting in the kitchen last week - knock at the door - answer - to see the back of the postman receding down the stairs - 'parcel for you mate' - gestures to padded envelope on the door step. First rising waves of terror - Oh God - what manner of drunken internet shopping is this? No memory - but that is often the case - I've been really good - I haven't bought anything for ages. Calm down - relax - it has a hand written label - not the hoof prints of the normal commercial transaction. Bring it in - look at it some more - no idea - I was expecting a couple of packs of blades - but you don't need a parcel that size for blades. Only one way to find out - open it - inside is an Executive Shaving box - the sort they sell brushes in - a strange and beautiful perfume fills the room, I swear I can hear the flittering of tiny wings - a strange glow emanates from under the lid. Open it - the first bars of Carmina Burana thunder forth - the room is filled with divine light - like when they took the lid off the Ark of the Covenant in 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' - minus the melting Nazis - of course - I have few hard and fast rules in life - but not sharing my domestic space with National Socialists is one of them. My eyes adjust to the light and I see this -

Sotd-12-05-20.jpg

Most will know - that is a Gillette Slim - 1963 model in this case - in exquisite condition - not a mark on it - looks like it has been reconditioned and or replated recently. I find the beautifully written letter in the parcel - explaining that my correspondent thought this might cheers me up - in these dark days - it did - and also he wasn't getting the best use of it as he just kept sitting staring at it instead of shaving with it. This I can understand - I have done the same for the last four or five days before getting it wet today. The shave -

prep - facial scrub
razor - Gillette Slim (3)
blade - Tiger (1)
brush - Semogue 2015 HD silver tip
soap - PAA - Cad
post - witch hazel
a/s - Epsilon Blue
balm - Alvarez Gomez Barberia.

Result - couldn't have been much better. I have been on the receiving end of much humbling generosity from fellow members - too many to list - you know who you are - but in this case I have to thank @Satanfriendly - as I said to you C. - I am seldom lost for words - but I remain speechless as to how to thank you adequately - other than to say - thank you again - a truly wonderful thing to have done. Oh - any idea how to get rid of the choir angelic from my kitchen? The wee bastards got set in about my whisky last night.

A free razor with every pack of blades (and decent ones at that). Makes a change to the usual shoddy pack of blades you get free with a razor.

Date:- 13 May 2020

Pre-shave:- Cold Water straight from the tap
Bowl/Scuttle:- Captain's Choice
Brush:- WCS Two-Tone Tall (Blue & White) Extra Dense Synth. 26/56mm knot

Tuesday 12 may

Prep : warm water / Proraso green pre-shave
Razor : Kurenai GF33S / Fatip Grande OC
Brush : Yaqi synth
Blade : Dorco Barber Blade / Gillette 7 O'clock Super Stainless
Soap : The Goodfellas'Smile Stardust
Alum : De Vergulde Hand
After shave : The Goodfellas'Smile Stardust

The Dorco blade keeps feeling rough, even after 6 shaves, unlike Schick Pro-Line. So I tossed it, next shave will be with the Schick.
Cheeks are neck are fine with my shavettes. Under the nose and between chin and under lip is still "scary"

What did you think if the Stardust soap? I enjoyed the powdery floral scent during the initial lather but found that it quickly faded.
