Especially for extra hollow ground razors, put a thick layer of cotton underneath the blade. This absorbs the energy and prevents blade chipping due to extra force applied while manually cleaning a razor with emery paper.

Good idea. I usually hold the blade when I do this, but your way seems safer-).
