power cable with on/off switch thingy help

Hi All

I'm having a stupid day today (brain operating at c. 40% - very big & busy day yesterday, at least that's my excuse.)

So I thought I'd ask my favourite forum for some HAY-ULP (as Penelope Pitstop say-us)

I've got a nice radio by my bed but the wife says the display light is too bright at night (although my girlfriend thinks it's fine).

So I need a power cable that has a three-pin mains plug at one end, a "two hole" type thingy at the other end (i.e. to go into the radio's two "pins") BUT which crucially has an on/off switch on the cable (the normal "rocker" sort that lots of leads for lights have).

Any idea where I can get one or what search terms I could use to find one? I could make one myself but would rather not as I suspect 1. I would botch it and 2. they're pretty cheap anyway.

THANKS!

I have never seen a Figure 8 Power Cable with a Table light type switch on it (think thats what you require), i have lot's of electrical stuff in my bedroom that i want to switch off rather than just "Standby" it, if you look in ASDA they are selling a 4 Unit Remote Control Plug Set, so you can turn off/on 4 seperate wall sockets..... it was £4.85 a couple of weeks ago

Like this: (might just sort you out, it's what i use, handy for turning Christmas lights on and off too !)

I think that you are referring to a lead like this one? It's a 'figure of eight' type lead.

If so, I don't think that I have ever seen one of these with a switch halfway up it.

I have - but only because I put one there... http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p76089 is the sort of switch you're after... easier than wiring a plug, should be gettable at any DIY shed. I'd get a 6A one rather than 2A (simply because the connector is rated at 6A and the minimum fuse is 3A so I'd prefer the fuse went rather than the switch go if some dolt uses it on something that draws 6A)

Ah, an in-line switch.

Now I know what they're called I see lots here:

Might give it a go.

Better than dimming the screen with a filter as I still like to check the time in the wee small hours when I go for a small wee.

Nice one lads - and special thanks to Hunny, the hottest mod with the cutest bod mmm hmmm.

(Time for my meds.)

That means you have to fumble around when you just want to know the time and you are still going to flash that bright display albeit momentarily?

also if you switch it off wont you have to reset the time everytime or am i being dim.. :?

Nah, it's a Roberts DAB - sets the time itself. Also makes the tea and kisses me softly to wake me up.

Well it should for I paid for it.
