Post shave balm.

This stuff is sold as 'pre', and 'post' shave balm, it's excellent at both...

My post shave routine: rinse with cold water, apply alum on the wet face, clean my shaving kit while the alum does its work, rinse the alum with cold water, dry my face with towel, splash some AS, clean the bathroom mess while the AS dries a bit, apply thin coat of Nivea Men cream (not the balm). I have excellent results with this, but everyone's skin is different.

Generally I recommend not putting on shaving soap or shaving cream directly on your face because it is a concentrated product and may sensitize your skin, causing it to break out. You may think it was a rough shave or something added in post-shave, but it could be the overapplication of product. And the worst thing you can do after overapplying product is to add more product to soothe it. Water and rest is what works best for the skin. Good hydration of the lather and not applying it directly (rubbing a puck, stick or cream) sorted this for me, and good cold water rinsing between stages helps immensely.
