Non oily pre shave product

Take a look on the shaving web sites - there are lots of different products and manufacturers. Of the ones I've tried:

Village Barber Oil I found better all round than T&H Oil.
Slick Water I'm undecided about.
Proraso Pre/Post is good especially when used with a towel.
Santa Maria Novella is my favourite - performance and smell.
Myrsol Emulsion can be used pre or post although I've only used it post so far.

Castle Forbes gets good reviews but is pricy if I remember right (although SMN is not cheap).

I tend to use all of them before a hot towel.

I use Burt's Bees shave cream as a pre shave, it's absolute shite as a shave cream on it's own, but as a per shave it's fantastic, I apply after a good wash it doesn't lather up at all, but it as great slip and loads of cushion and good moisturising affect, and more importantly very easy to lather over with a brush using your normal product shaving cream or soap.

+1 on the Myrsol Emulsion, it does seem to add a protective layer, quite a cool blast before you shave though, be warned if you try lol
