Le Mans 24 Hours 2012

Audi number3 has hit the wall trying to lap an amateur-crewed GT Porsche; Toyotas running impressively given their lack of preparation. I'm snatching a few minutes of Radio Le Mans on the laptop here on holiday.

Davidson Toyota has just crashed heavily (including a flip) trying to lap a GT Ferrari. Both drivers are, apparently, out of the cars. Davidson's looking a touch woozy but OK, but the Ferrari has flattened the armco, bringing out the safety car.

That was a mighty flip, looked painful but apparantly both drivers are OK. Taken a while to repair that armco though.

That's what happens when you let wealthy amateurs share the track with the professionals.

Davidson tweeted from hospital that he has broken his back.

Yes, it would seem he has cracked 2 vertebrates. 3 months to recover apparantly.

Eurosport showed the whole 24 hours, mega. I watched a bit of the warm up races but the classic ended up being 11 minutes long because of a smash. Saw about an hour or two of the main event.
