Kirinite

Evening gents,

My kirinite has arrived to make my scales, but they are 3/8 inch thick. Any suggestions on how to thin them down? Do you think if I took it somewhere with a band saw some one could chop it down the centre? Obviously I could sand it down, but that seems a real waste as it will be more than half that goes to waste.... Enough to make another set!!

I could try a hacksaw, but knowing me it would not be straight!!!!

I have no idea what kirinite is or how easy/difficult to work but, remember that scales must be perfectly flat on the insides otherwise the wedge will not fit properly, and they must also be even. The reason I say this is that if your bandsaw idea is even slightly off, you will have to even them out and you won't have much to play with. You could try and get them planed to a smaller thickness but you probably have to accept that there will be quite a bit of waste.

Just looked up kirinite and I assume it's a form of acrylic in which case sanding seems to be your only option. Wet&dry will be best but even then, make sure you wear a decent mask.
