I decided to try this out ;http://www.theshavingroom.co.uk/forum/thread-27987.html

My thoughts.

Difficult to hold, anyway. Even more so, at a good shaving angle, especially with fingers like cows tits.

I stropped it before use, but, in use, it did not feel sharp enough. I expected to feel nothing in the way of hair being sliced, when, in fact, the first pass was quite jaggy. Never having used one before, was I expecting too much? I doubt that the shaving angle was consistant, which does not help.

Two passes gave me a resonable shave, but not up to the standard that my Western razors, honed by Rob, achieved.

I will have to either wrap the tang, or fit a handle, if I'm going to continue to use this, which I'm inclined to do.

No blood was drawn, so I rate it as a successfull first attempt.:icon_rolleyes:

Here's a thought, pal ... bob onto eBay and look up silicone hosing. Snag a length of, say, 6mm bore and push it onto the handle. Careful! That blade will get you!

I found the rounded handle on the Feather AC gave very nice rolling control over the contours.

You're a better man than me Notsharp.
I've had one sitting here forever. Haven't been able/interested in honing it to a usable sharpness. Just not sure of it[emoji33].

I wasn't sure of it either, but I thought that the longer I put off using it, the less sure I would become.:icon_razz:

Go for it. The worse that you can do is slice your neck open.:icon_biggrin:

I can't follow the link Steve but I assume it's a kamisori blade that you want to cover. Have you tried Sugru? The beauty of this stuff is that you can mould any shape you want and, once it is set overnight, sand it to a nice finish. Alternatively, this site sells rubber handles.

Thanks for that, Rob.

It was this one that I snagged.

Personally, I'd find out about how to wrap with bamboo. I'm sure it's easy enough once you've found the bamboo and figured out how to plait it. Soak in water, I guess. I reckon leather would be less slippery, but bamboo more vernacular.

I don't think it's bamboo - I've read references to willow but I bought what was described as raffia and is a good match. You can use all kind of stuff including rolled leather or waxed cord. If you look in Hobbycraft there a whole load of stuff.

It is maybe worth coating the steel with varnish before putting anything over it - I noticed that mine now has a stain showing through which is probably because it got damp.
