Ok..so my mom's birthday is coming up and my sister was thinking of getting her an iPod maybe..but my mom has a cd player for music..a Kindle for her audio books and sometimes she goes to the public library to get free audio books as well...I think my mom has enough "gadgets" for awhile..My parents have been married about 40yrs now and now in their mid 60's..they are enjoying their wine for a few years now and eating out at fancier places..they sometimes like to bring a bottle of their personal bottle of wine when out to their favorite elegant restaurant..etc...my only question is..they do love their Pino Grigio wine..and it isnt bitter or highly acid by much...so if its aerated..then whats to enjoy?

Thoughts?

I think its one of those " a good idea at the time " gifts that'll end up in a cupboard, unused :) .
Very few people nowadays decant wine and those that do would frown on this I'd imagine.

I don't like it - to my eye it's ugly. If you think your mom will actually bother to decant the wine, then get something that is going to look good on the table or wherever - like one of these http://www.jamespirie.com/standrews/display.cfm A bit pricier, but at least attractive to look at, and would pour nicely. And they've even named one after me! :D

My parental unit are also wine drinkers, but as they've aged they found it harder to remove the cork... So there were two obvious answers, an electric corkscrew or something more elegant (and portable  ).

Mind you I bought an antique one rather than a modern one.

Well...my parents have an automatic wine opener which works well...hmmm..what else in the wine catagory could one want?..hehe

Or anything else a mom/grandma would like

I agree with you blades, Pino wouldn't really benefit from be decanted. I like HM's idea and I'd recommend this type of corkscrew unless of course your father would feel emasculated by using it.

They are a little ungainly but super efficient and secure, perfect for digits with less strength.
