I can't be f***ed

Today has been one of those days where I just can't be fu***d anymore.

I went back to work yesterday after my holiday so it was a bit of a drag but today Im in charge and I get a visit from our regional manager and he starts busting my balls for shit that was done whilst I was on holiday.

Every time I was asked something I had to say "I don't know.... I was on holiday" which makes me look and feel like an absolute fud.

Apparently it is fair for me to get a ball busting because I had been back one day and should have questioned the motives of my superiors!?!

I know things could be worse but my job has got increasingly more bollocks over the last year. No pay rise or bonus this year chaps because "of the current financial climate" however the company did make about £75,000,000 in profit last financial year.

Also I just spent the last 2 weeks with my family and realised that they are now my friends and not just brothers and sisters so I'm feeling pretty homesick too.

Im not looking for sympathy or anything (I know I wont get it) I just needed a space to vent.

I think we all have "one of those days" every now and again, it is good to let off some steam about it, you probably get the same attitude from superiors more than you realise but normally just ride it out, but as you have had a nice holiday and now it's back to the grind....it's just getting to you mate.....

Sit back, relax and I’m sure some of our more Jocular members can ease things for ya !! :D

I thought you were suffering from the same complaint as Pele at first... I was going to offer to forward on some of the offers I get for drugs to rectify the situation.

Anyway... welcome to my world, except 2 years since a derisory pay rise, no bonus, scaling back of benefits - during which time the company has made billions in profit. Separation packages on offer, but not to me because I have a high rating.

You think you've got it bad? Stop complaining - there's always someone worse off than you:

Had a few such days, we all need them so we can appreciate the good ones. Remember every silver lining needs a cloud ;)

Whilst maintaining eye contact with the above mentioned oxygen thief, take a nice deep breath, clear the mind of all though and then enjoy a few seconds of unprecedented out of body violence of medieval proportions.... works for me. Don’t forget to smile and say thank you afterwards. :)

Yea, I don't know what I'd do if my bowl didn't fit in the cupboard.

Andy,

Bide you time mate, an opportunity will come along at some point, and you'll be able to tell them to stick that job up their arse.

I had a proper job once. As you went on holiday, came back to a routine check. Everything check was the period while I was away. Obviously I claimed it wasn't fair they mark me down for someone else's incompetence. The response was that I should have contingency plans in place for my absence to ensure things are done correctly while I'm away. It never happened again. Staff were trained to do my job and my job/life at work was much easier as a result. I delegated. If the staff mucked up, it was reflected in their quarterly review. Seems harsh, things actually worked out better for all.

I had a reasonably senior and very decently paid role in a major utility company until 6 years ago. Fortunately I was mortgage and major debt free and so thought f*** it, so at 48 I took a package and looked for something I really wanted to do - which was to stay in my profession - but in a company that really made a difference.

My salary is nowhere near what it was but the satisfaction more than makes up for that. Sure it has its ups and down and occassional squabbles but would I go back? Not a chance. I'm also now proud to tell people where I work.

I realise that this option may not be appropriate for others - and I'm not preaching or gloating - but its nice to be in control.

Never measure real wealth in terms of money; health and happiness are the key.

Here endeth the lesson, according to Blyth Spirit.

Sounds to me like the guy who came to see you is a total pratt, who should have reserved his admonitions for your superiors. Difficult to comment tho' without a bit more info as to your role, and that of those who messed up.
I am really lucky that my employers are the most understanding in the world, so people who have babies can work part-time and/or from home (male and female), and people with serious stuff going on at home like someone dying, marriage breakup etc. get cut lots of slack. Of course this contributes to all of us not getting as high a wage as might otherwise be possible....but then you might be the next person who finds things going pear shaped in private life, so it works out in the end.

I'm very lucky. I got out of the rat race by starting a small business and working from home. I have five clients who are great to work for. I now have the time to look after my little boys. This is possible because the lovely Mrs PC earns more than me (and actually enjoys her job, despite the pressure) and works four days a week. I have had a few jobs over the years. I have been bullied on a number of occasions (once resulting in un-proven constructive dismissal), and even framed for theft! My wife has also been bullied at the first two places she worked, resulting in time off from stress. I thought school could be tough. The workplace has the same amount of bullying and nastiness without the actual violence. If you are in a job you hate it's very difficult to change the situation. If this keeps going try to get out and find something you enjoy doing. You've only got one life after all.
