How to tie your shoelaces

We haven't had one of these apparently mindless threads for some time so here's my recommended way for lacing your shoes - using loops rather than criss cross.
Start with a loop over the bottom set of holes and both sides of lace equal - take one end and thread through the next set of holes, under the opposite side and over, then use the opposite end on the next but one set of holes in the same way and continue alternating until both laces are at the end.

You will find that pulling on each lace tightens them equally.

Feel free to like this post.

And don't forget, in the 1960s with the old, leather rectangular laces they had to be uniform and not twisted ( our drill Sgt never did forget ! ).

I have been using the Ian knot for about ten years. It is almost magical when demonstrated to young ones, although when I tie in the traditional way it's painful to watch.

Blimey, who'd have thunk so many lacing methods.

A possibly useful tip: the expensive shoemakers in my neck made shoes for ~£600, but replacement laces (matched to the number of lacing holes in your shoes, natch) were pence – bargain!
