Yet another recent convert to DE shaving. I've recently got into Safety razors after getting fed up mainly with the extortionate pricing of cartridge blades, but not I'm enjoying taking a little more time to shave.

Two weeks in and I'm still struggling to get a consistent all over close shave. Initial attempts resulted in an upper lip and neck covered in blood, but I'm slowly learning to take my time, let the Razor do the work and resist the urge to shave against the grain (which always worked fine with my Mach3).

Using an Edwin Jagger DE89L with a boar brush (badger on order) and TOOBS Sandalwood (although I treated myself to some Jermyn St today). Alum block on order, although I'm worried it will increase and not reduce my shaving rash.

Anyway, Hello :)

Welcome to the forum!

Zero pressure. Just the weight of the razor.
With the grain first pass - short strokes
Accross the grain with a second pass
Against the grain with the final pass - short strokes
Zero pressure. Just the weight of the razor.

Cheers
Rod

Just up the road from you. And it piddled it down all day.

Welcome. When ever I feel that I may have gone a bit too close, I try to use a alcohol based after shave. Then after a few hours I follow up with a cream like Nivea protective cream. It seem to head off any problems.

Hello and welcome.
It'll soon come together for you and the DE89 is a great razor.
Change blade every couple of shaves and try other brands, it may help
regards, beejay
