Hi there,
I've been lurking for a week or so, so I thought I'd best say hello. I'm from Glasgow, as I've noticed quite a few forum regulars are. (Before you ask I don't follow the fitba.)
I've used a mach3 most of my shaving days, but it usually irritated my neck quite a lot. A few years ago, like Dylan, I went electric (Judas!) but all that did was give me a hot red neck instead of a wet one.
About a year ago I bought a brush and went back to the mach3, which got me a closer shave than the electric.
Like lots of people I happened upon Mantic59's youtube videos while looking for very obscure, specific pornog... er shaving tips. Yes, that's it.
I decided to try DE shaving, and got one of the black plastic Wilkinson Sword razors and the hateful Blue Bowl of Doom, and seven or so months later I'm a reasonably seasoned traditional shaver. I've never had, and doubt I ever will have, a BBS shave; I've not got the skin or the beard for it, but I'm slowly getting better.
I've managed to stave off the worst of the acquisition disorders, but I've still managed to pick up 5 DE razors, 1 SE, 2 brushes, and I have 8 unopened soaps/creams and 7 opened ones. I've only got about 250 blades though, so I'm starting to get twitchy. Frosty looks and declarations of insanity from my beloved finance director have kept spurious purchases to a minimum. On an entirely unrelated note, has anyone else used the Amazon Locker system? You can get stuff delivered to the Co-Op and as long as it fits inside a rucksack no one need know.
I've even started to finish whole tubs of things. For every one that falls two shall rise in their place!
I have spent a bit of time on The Other Forum, I dare not speak it's name in case I get banned, but I thought that the Brit perspective might be of more use to me. My nearest Target store being a whole ocean away, but I could walk to Boots or Superdrug.
I'm a scientist by trade, so hopefully I can chip in on some of the discussions about soap chemistry or metallurgy of blades etc.
