It should work fine.
I've used olive oil myself and it worked fine, though it had a very strong olive aroma.

I've seen the sweet almond oil in Holland and Barratts.
I'm a big fan of grapeseed oil. It's nice and light and won't clog up your razor.
Like majortom, I mix it with other oils (argan, coconut, jojoba) and essential oil but it works just fine on it's own

My own blend!
60ml grapeseed oil
25ml sweet almond oil
10ml Vitamin E oil (Holland and Barett)
5ml tea tree oil
5-10 drops of your favourite essential oil(s). I use 5 drops peppermint + 5 drops cedar.
Watch out for sensitivity with tea tree and essential oils! The vitamin E oil is very thick so don't overdo it.
Very comfy shave either preshave or latherless.
