I like to encourage friends and family into wetshaving. So this year I'm making brushes for the men.
These came in yesterday

Two 26mm blacks
Two 24mm grays
One 30mm dense silvertip for myself.

I'll post as I go through, if you have basic tools shaving brushes make a good project.

They look good, I'm especially liking the 30mm. What do you plan to do handle wise?
I unfortunately don't own a lathe, so I will be carving and sanding all of them. Material wise I'm going to have different materials for all of them. I'm thinking sandstone, slate, cherry burl, banksia pod, Oak and a little shell or stone inlays on some.

The harder stone I am using now is far more difficult to work with than soapstone I have previously used. I expected this but unfortunately I am being proved right in the extreme.

This is where I have gotten so far. Materials cut down to size.

Now it's onto working the blocks into handles. I'll be doing this with a rotary tool, files, sanding drums and diamond burrs.

I am going to tackle the big marble one first. Going to keep it meaty in the hand and go for a classic vase shape. We'll see how it goes.
