Best Mangal with 2 branches on the North End Road, London W14 certainly passes the sobriety test with flying colours. Proper chunks of lamb on the doner spit rather than the minced stuff which is the kebab equivalent of canned goo

Efes restaurant in Taunton do some of the best Turkish food I've eaten. Usually eat in. Bring your own vino/beer etc. Great, friendly place.

Ooh, I have an update here ...

I had said Shwarma in Bradford. Simple, clean, fresh and really good! Last summer, I had a wonderful kebab while on holiday in Malta. Folks tripping to the Land of Knights & Rabbits could do worst than a visit to Kebab Ji - http://kebabji.blogspot.co.uk

... and while it looks a bit run of the mill, perhaps a bit grim, the food was truly gorgeous!
