Anyone else on the 'book?
 
I have resisted all forms of social networking but almost all my family including my pensioner parents are on Facetube or Twitbook or whatever.

I've missed out on 80's school re-unions due to not having accounts which is a shame but if I wanted to keep in touch with people, I would've done.

Texting works well for my needs.
 
I too confess to being on facebook.

My network is mainly extended family. They are spread around the UK, Dallas, Las Vegas and New York.
One of the issues for me is the fact that so many people use it in such different ways, reflecting different values and cultures. I have a particular group of Christian fundamentalists in Las Vegas whose language may as well come from another planet. Another lot vie with each other in calls for sympathy for the most minor of ailments - other newly weds cannot resist virtually openly making love in words every few hours. Is it a generation thing?
I once rang my sister in Shoreham on reading on facebook that her Las Vegas daughter was pregnant. No one thought to tell her before putting it on facebook. It was uncomfortable.

So why do I bother? I don't much. But sometimes it is a way of finding out real news around the family.

I was on facebook but pulled out. I was somewhat horrified at some of the things that my friends had on there especially the ones that I thought were decent upright citizens.
 
I find the opposite: I'm amazed at how kind and gentle and open people are.

I've spoken of things like my Christian faith and my depression and people have been sensitive and genuine, even people whom I (cynically?) expected to ignore or even deride such subjects.

Sorry your experience was so bruising Kristian.
