That's very misleading.

NF recruited tough young lads from the terraces, but they recruited just as many from the factory floor, the pit, the army and the dole queue.

The NF didn't influence what happened on match days. Football lads when collected together in "firms" are completely non-political ... they were there to support their team.

Also, the long story of football hooliganism started many, many years before the 60s.

fair point but the hooliganism prior wasn't as bad and as organised as the 70s and 80s

I go every week and I prefer going now to the bad old days
