Hi there,

Here's a good sampler with some of the more popular bay rum frags included. I ordered this myself years ago and it was a good value and also pretty handy.

Nice US company to deal with: http://barclaycrocker.com/merchant.mvc?Store_code=barclay&Screen=PROD&Product_Code=SampleBay

Let me just mention the bay rum aftershave that Steve concocts is a top notch product when it comes to a bay rum scent interpretation.

Sorry if this sounds dumb, but having never heard off bay rum until I joined here... Is it just essentially an aftershave splash with a specific smell?

That's it. I didn't think I'd like it but I'm glad I tried this - I use it regularly.

It may be out of stock, but it's well worth a try.

When it's back in stock, give it a try.

Great thanks Fido!!

Yeah. Rum, cinnamon, cloves, bit of vanilla, bit of orange oil. It was supposedly a splash invented out in the Caribbean islands a good long time ago so it's quite old school, warm and spicy. Or good ones are anyway. Some of them head off in differing directions, the American ones are very different to the English, which are different again to Caribbean lotions you might find in some specialist ethnic grocers in the UK. American ones tend to be a bit sweeter on the whole.

I'd heard of Bay Rum before joining here having seen it in Boots but I'd never tried it. I'm now on my third bottle of Steve's Barbershop Bay Rum and it is simply the best aftershave I've ever used with an intoxicating scent. I've since tried Pinaud Clubman Bay Rum and the Taylor of Old Bond Street one but neither come close and are sweet sickly confections in comparison to Steve's glorious concoction. I've got about 85% of the current bottle left and a full one in reserve to last me till May.

Graeme, where can I get myself a bottle of Steve's Bay Rum, and how much is it?

Cheers,

Cyril

Scratch that Graeme, I have tracked Steve down and sent him a PM regarding pre ordering....

Carl's right, he isn't me! And wouldn't want to be, neither...

Cyril, if you promise to be a good boy and stop going near those sheep, I may send you a sample of Steve's Wonder Juice with your Lab Blues. ;)

Graeme in the Gairden :D

Sorry Graeme/Carl, half asleep after a busy night shift!

Graeme, using my detective skills (the same ones I used to track down Scottish Perma's) ;-) I have managed to purchase a full bottle,of Steve's Bay Rum.

Thanks for the offer Graeme, your Perma samples are packaged and ready......

Will,post tomorrow.

As a lowlander, do you dab a spot of Bay Rum behind Flossies ears before pulling on your Velcro Welles?

:)

By the way, I am a Yorkshireman though my generosity does mask that.........

Carl, hope the Scottish Perma's are still floating your boat.

Regards,

Cyril

I've heard nothing but good things about Steve's Bay Rum, and when his next batch is ready in May I'll definitely be getting myself some. I've never used Bay Rum anything before, so why not start with the very best :icon_razz:.

Hi there,

Not to enable you in any way of course, but you might like to sample a bay rum version or two before Steve's batch is done cooking.

Most of the interpretations will have a base of Pimenta racemosa essential oil. Yeah, it's a plant that's distilled, and the essence is known as bay rum EO.

From there many other notes can be added, just like the Canuck listed. So maybe just sniff a few to see if you even like the basic scent. Steve's recipe is well liked, one reason being he doesn't go overboard with any one accent note like clove or lime or whatever.
