I tried the Fig. 3 "slide" today using a pre-war Canadian Tech and a NOS English Wilky blade. Although it worked fine I don't think it works any better on my face than say a side to side ATG pass, but in deference to jmudrick it would be a time saver as it amalgamates two passes into one.

That's how I learned to shave over a half century ago. But today it's different strokes for different areas. Use the technique that works best on the parts of the face where it works best.
