Hey all, just looking for some words from the wise again.

Out of the blue, BT gave us a £40 Amazon voucher that I forgot we were owed from signing up. So as I've been thinking of getting some good starter knives, thought I'd use it towards them.

I don't mind spending a little more on top of the £40, so appreciate any thoughts.

Do I go with a set, something like these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Henckels-St...e=UTF8&qid=1460880581&sr=1-128&keywords=knife

Or go for separates:

Chefs http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wusthof-Sil...e=UTF8&qid=1460880581&sr=1-126&keywords=knife

Paring http://www.amazon.co.uk/Victorinox-...8&qid=1460880683&sr=1-2&keywords=Paring+knife

Bread http://www.amazon.co.uk/Victorinox-...F8&qid=1460881166&sr=1-8&keywords=Bread+knife

Thoughts? I'd also need a block then too. Are those magnetic ones OK to use with good knives?

Thanks for any pointers folks.

Mike

Three, or four piece sets usually have a knife that rarely gets used. Bread knives tend to be crap and how often would ya use a carving knife? The chefs knife does the job of both.

Have a look in TK Max. They usually have decent sets at good prices.

Try:

A chef's knife and utility knife is all you need (as is stated above, there's always one that gets less use / doesn't get used)

Henckels are great knives though and the above two cover all bases - the utility knife does the job of the bread knife and more, and the chef's knife makes the paring knife mostly redundant
I can vouch for the Henckels Professional 20cm Chef's Knife. It has a very comfortable handle and extremely sharp blade that holds its edge well. It truly is an all-purpose knife.

Wusthof also make great knives, especially the Classic range.
