Am I SAD?

Despite thinking it was crazy when I first started I think I've got soap acquisition disorder.

  • DR Harris Windsor
  • DR Harris Marlborough
  • Mike's Bay Rum
  • Mike's Barbershop
  • Mike's Lemongrass & Eucalyptus
  • Mike's Orange, Cedarwood, & Black Pepper
  • Mike's Vetiver
  • Mitchell's Wool Fat
  • Muhle Sandalwood
  • Palmolive sticks
  • La Toja
  • Arko
  • Omega Shave cream
  • Proraso Sandalwood cream
  • Mama Bear's Samples
  • Ogallala bay rum samples

This is why I can't come to forums like this too often. Soaps are just too affordable to resist.

Top 3: Mike's, DR Harris, Palmolive.
Bottom 3: Omega, Arko (phew!), Mamas

So, do I qualify as an addict yet? The nice weather inspired a few purchases for summer soaps and splashes. But I think I'm going to cut myself off for another year. I haven't even finished 1 puck yet!

Jon

I'll list mine later, when I get in. I'm not as "prepared" as you for a shaving embargo, but I have enough to last me a while!

When I started I thought blades would be my only AD. How naïve.....

I've got my soaps down to my favourites now, after selling quite a few :-

  • MWF
  • Lea (+5 Spare Sticks)
  • VITOS Super Extra Coconut
  • D R Harris Almond
  • D R Harris Windsor
  • Proraso Menthol

Then a stick of Valobra & Palmolive to use up.

The Arko and Derby sticks that arrived last week will be used to clean the bathroom :)

I'm only infected with RAD at the moment...

This sounds familiar you are not alone! I measure my SAD by box size it started of with a windowsill, moved to a metre by half a metre box that fit under my bed, to now a metre by a metre box in my cupboard I have the entire TOBS collection and then around 40 more soaps/creams that's roughly 10 per month of the 6 months I've been wet shaving and no my face is not the size of the amazon nor do I eat soap in my sleeping just obsessed with scents/texture/cushion. That felt like a councilling session!

Considering that creams, fragrances etc do have a shelflife, SAD has always struck me as less justifiable as hoarding razors (for example). That said, I do have enough for a rather long time! I'll be on a soap/cream purchase embargo for the foreseeable future.

Nice collection. I think there are people with a bigger SAD and other areas of shaving too but you find your 'thing' and then stick to it.

For me it's creams. I did attempt to get into blades but didn't find it fun enough. I buy creams just for their smell really! Fortunately I'm out of the shaving obsession phase for now so I'm managing to use up what I have.

I agree with DR Harris for soap though. I'm not a huge fan of their cream (have Windsor) but the Arlington soap I have is amazing. The sole reason I never got properly into soap is because they last for so long and I'm all about sampling. I feel guilty if I buy too many without using them up though so creams sit better with me.

I did have a couple of Nanny's soaps but didn't get on too well with them so a mate had them off me and loves them - way it goes some times. The palmolive stick resides in a Boots shave stick case as the Boots made my skin feel very tight and a little too warm for my liking so the soap got binned.

I hope to trim down do just favourites as well. There's a 8 in my list I could live without. You have to try a few to discover what you like the best. I love Mike's Soaps so much I'm nearly paranoid he'll quit one day so feel I should stock up!

Happy to help! I love how many of you have listed your collections so I don't feel so guilty. I think I'm drawing the line at what doesn't fit under the sink has to go. I'm nearly inspired to pass on a few items (to make room for others!).

This concerned me when I first read it. Then I read it's more of a concern for creams than soaps, which I prefer. However it's a good point on the fragrances. That said, I'm not hoarding. I have everything in rotation so I'm enjoying the fragrances while I can.

Yet you're visiting a shaving forum. You, my friend, are playing with fire!
