Hiya,
Couple of things to keep in mind and one might even help! First of all, as you probably know, not all DE razors shave the same and it's very possible you haven't run across the best match up yet. Same goes for blades......gotta try a bunch once your technique is more perfected. In my case, some very well received razors like Weber and EJ/Muhle are just not a great fit on my face. No problem shaving with em, but not as comfortable as some others.
Has anyone in this thread suggested an injector? Pretty close to the Sensor technique wise and easier than a DE to get the hang of. Great sight lines and a decent selection of nice sharp blades.....mostly NOS but no problem finding plenty online. Currently, the Chinese Schick blades are good ones, but skip the German made version. Do not buy an early aggressive E type though......something like an L type head or even an adjustable one would be fine. I have one injector in my small, well culled rotation.
Something to think about anyway,
Martin
Thank you again Mbarn; all a bit too technical for me.
Kind regards, whitesix
Your angles may need to be modified, all razor's are different, some will require you to ride the cap and others not so much. You will quickly find out the best angle for your razor / blade combination.I have recently written a post on the SE forum reference SE V DE Razors (and my post What is the best cartridge/disposable razor system of all time?); it's been quite some time since I tried and failed miserably with DE shaving. But I "may" have got it all totally wrong, in respect of the angle of the razor. I may have thought the the handle of the razor should be 20/30° from the face when "obviously" but not "obviously" to me it should be the blade should be 20/30° from the face. Recently reviewing a few videos (Geo Fatboy et al) I noticed that the perfect shave is achieved when the head, blade, and guard are all in alignment when you place the razor against your face. My original method would have been far too aggressive; maybe that's why I failed so miserably of maybe not.
Having used cartridges pretty much for 50 years, one does not really think too much about angles, because with the swivel head, all of this sort of stuff is done for you. Old dog, new tricks? But I'm still not sure about getting to the points right under the nose though? Live and learn, but in my case very, very slowly.
I just thought, while you are finding the correct angle just shave your cheeks with your DE razor and finish off with your cartridge razor and once you are happy with your shave crack on with the rest of your stubble.I have recently written a post on the SE forum reference SE V DE Razors (and my post What is the best cartridge/disposable razor system of all time?); it's been quite some time since I tried and failed miserably with DE shaving.
