I am now a convert to synthetic. Previously, I've used various badgers - Plisson, M&F Simpson and Kents. Since earlier this year I've tried the following synthetics - tuxedos, Whipped Dog, Razorock, Cashmere and Envy Shave knots.
I recommend what previous posters have said about trying a synthetic first, as they are so much cheaper and they build better lather in shorter time, they need less maintenance. they do not shed.
I've now settled on the cashmere as the best of the synths. Forgot the hype behind tuxedos - the cashmere splays so much better than tuxedos, the Razorback plissoft is also really good for performance. Face feel have improved so much on the newer knots.
The biggest advantage (for me) in favour of the synthetics I've used so far is that they build lather so easily, I no longer worry about which soap I use. They handle all soaps so well when it comes to building lather.
In the morning, if I could cut down on my shaving time, the synthetics have helped.
But again we all have an opinion on brush choice. Good luck in your decision.
