Noob just received first setup

The video posted is the video I have been religiously watching all week, think I have watched it 4 times over now. Had another crack tonight, although I'm not a fast grower when it comes to facial hair, going to take some time to perfect, im missing lots of spots. I seem to find when I take a stroke, I am not getting to all the hairs, could be because not an aggressive razor, or just my noobness, time will tell :)

You won't get all the stubble on a pass, it's all about hair reduction in multiple passes in different directions.
You will remove all your stubble providing the blade is good and you have the razor head at the correct angle with passes in different directions. You should not aim to remove all your stubble in one Pass like you would with a cartridge razor.
It will come together soon enough, good lather, and no pressure on the razor will give you a trouble free shave.

This is still a bugbear for me. All the while I'm trying NOT to do too many passes as it will just irritate my neck, but I wish I could get more off after 1-2 passes

This was the result of my 1st attempt, prior to shaving I probably had a good week just over of growth. (Excuse my large nose lol)

Dean, It looks great. I was cut to ribbons when I started. There are more aggressive razors available but you have only started to shave this way, stick with what you have for now trying different blades to see what suits your skin. For me Astra Superior Platinum are my blades of choice. The DE89 was my first razor and I still love it. As I said in previous comments, don't be tempted to spend more money yet. Trust me though , if you get the shaving bug you will. Don't aim for baby bum smooth BBS just yet. Just aim for a decent shave that looks good. Over doing it will result in redness and soreness especially on your neck. I never go against the grain on my neck and take your time and enjoy the experience. When i was using cartridge razors it was a chore to shave, now I look forward to shaving

It will just take a little time and practice to get a good result from 2 passes. I haven't gone above that in the last year. Apart from technique, the main variable worth adjusting is the blade, but unless one brand turns out to be dire, persist and work your way through a pack.

I got a sample set of blades and the Feathers were the first ones I tried. Maybe they were too sharp for my first shave with a DE, but I had a lot of nicks, cuts, etc even after a couple of shaves with the same blade. Only tried a couple of them and moved on to something else. I may go back and try them again now that I have a bit more experience.

Feathers have a distinct bias towards sharpness at the expense of longevity and to a degree smoothness.

I agree that it's a good idea to park them until further into your journey

Welcome to the forum

With regards missing bits, it may be that your angle isn't quite steep enough.
Try a steeper angle and see if it helps.

I wouldn't recommend Feather blades for someone new to DE shaving.

Yes I am experimenting with the angles, I have also swapped out the feather blade for the Bluebeard blades I also got free with the kit.

Just had another shave, don't usually shave daily, but enjoying it so much I want to. However with a new Bluebeard blade I found myself having a hard time, I literally did 4 passes, and I still have stubble/spikes especially around the chin and lower jawbone areas, as a result I found myself applying pressure to try and get rid of it, which I know I shouldn't do (luckily no blood was shed).

What could be the issue? Is it a bad idea to shave everyday, taking into account I'm pretty fair haired and I'm no werewolf growth speed kind of guy.

Going by your photo, it appears you did a decent job and maybe shaving daily is unnecessary for you. You will find a sweet spot in terms of frequency. I don't get enough growth to justify shaving daily and can be prone to irritation so a day of rest for my face seems to work. On the other hand 3 days is pushing it so it's pretty much every other day for me. I took the tip from earlier in the thread about having a slightly steeper blade angle and today had probably the best shave of my life. I managed to get more hairs than usual around the jawlines yet without it irritating my skin. Also no nicks. Result! Keep at it, shave when you feel ready to and not before. You will grow in confidence and your face will tell you how you're doing. Don't force it by applying pressure. Get a nice lather and the angle right and you'll soon be sorted. This from the man who only started DE shaving a month ago !

Shaving for one month ,you are, and a padawan you already have,....The Force is strong with this one,......

Here is my first complete set.
Good starting setup but I am not sure about the blades as Bluebeard don't manufacture them. I don't know if the pre-shave is necessary either as a hydration of the stubble followed by a good lather will give you a good shave. You may want to try a sample pack of blades to find the best blade for you. Connaught Shaving do a good Gillette 40 blade pack.
