Possibly a stupid question ..

Seemingly in an attempt to create an endless combination of variables I have recent acquired a 6c which I am over the moon with but now (re) commences blade research.

To hopefully reduce this by a factor of 6, I have a question…

We all know that different faces prefer different blade and razor combinations, however does the combination vary depending on setting on an adjustable razor, ie 6c and GSB might be great on setting 4 and an Astra Green might suck (for me) should I expect similar results on 3 and 5 or might they vary?

I’m down to 8 creams x 4 preshaves x 12 blades which gives roughly a year to conclude, I’d rather not make it 6 years ..

Thanks

Yes, in my experience the combination varies depending on the setting on any adjustable razor!
It's tough this shaving game! :)

Although I appreciate the input, this isn’t the answer I wanted..

Second question, how do i make stubble grow faster so I can shave twice per day and then it only takes 3 years, providing I buy nothing else …

The Rockwell 6C/S isn't really like other adjustable razors where you adjust the blade gap with a dial but it seems to be it's own thing.

If I was using one, for daily shaves anyway I would start with the plate which was 2 or 3, with an Astra Superior Platinum which IMO is the benchmark middle of the road of blade.

If with Plate 2/3 the Astra SP isn't cutting through your stubble adequately, either use Plate 4/5/6 or use plate 2/3 with a slightly sharper blade like the Gillette Silver Blue.

If I had a few days worth of stubble, say a week's worth, I'd try Plate 4/5 with a Astra SP then see from there.

I ran through all ten plates on the MARS Razor and found my personal sweet spot. My methodology was to basically start in the middle and go up one day, down the next ... I think. Anyway, I ran through the lot and found a few that were simply no use to me being too mild or just to gaping but I think you'll find the narrow set of choices to all be suitable for you.

Finding the sweet spot is the starting point ...

Once you know that, say it's 3, then on a day you're feeling like a mild shave then drop to 2 or 1 and a day when you want a damn good scrape, up it to 4 or 5. Missed a shave or two? Go for the 6 and whisk it all away in one go! Finding the sweet spot with the same blade (so, yes, just pick your favourite blade and run through all the options) is the key. From there you'll know the differences that the numbers make ... and through trying out different blades, you'll find some prefer a wider gap and some work nicer with a narrow gap.

SuperMax Titanium, for example, might be best in a 1 or 2 and a three or four pass shave, while a Nacet in a 4 or 5 makes for a brisk experience and a single pass with touch-ups.

You'll find that out as you go ...

TLDR?

Use the same blade, start with 3 ... then 4 & 1; 5 & 1 ... and brave a 6 for the heck of it. You'll get a feel for which number you like best as your baseline. Same soap and brush, too, for best results.

Most of all, have fun!

I appreciate this isn't a useful answer but it will be different for everyone. Start with plate R3 and your favourite blade. Test the different plates with this blade and find your preferred one. Then you can mix the blades up with that plate to find out for sure.
I’m starting to see what this shaving lark is popular with retired people …

I hear that if you massage cow dung into your skin after a shave the hair will grow back twice as fast, it's got to be fresh mind!
Let me know how you get on with that!

Well...

...can I cheat and suggest a move to Venus? Then the day would last 5832 of our hours so you could shave 243 times per day. There aren't any horses, boar or badgers there though so you'd have to use a synthetic brush, but that's OK, right? The only real problem I foresee is that @Boycie83 's Emporium doesn't ship there yet, so you should stock up beforehand.

Razor & blade combination is only part of it.
As long as your prep/lather and technique is spot on, you could get a decent, comfortable shave with a Bowie knife.
The 6C on plate 3 is capable of taking down a week's growth regardless of which blade I use.
It's not a written law that you MUST use every available blade on the market like a guinea pig in a lab. Life is too short for that palavah.
load a GSB/Silver Blue and get the job done.
