SOTD : Saturday 18th April to Friday 24th April 2020

The mid-week shave though now I don't know if that applies anymore. I don't know about you but this all seems to have blurred together into one bologna “Ground Hog Day”....the movie that is except without the funny bits.

Had the Merkur Progress out a little while back and reached for the Mergress today. This one came from the B&B Saint Sue Moore Auction. Beautiful razor for a worthy cause. Loaded up with a Gillette Nacet.

Soap of the day RazoRock American Barber. This one was my first “barber shop” scent and I really like it quite a bit. Great scent and a great soap. The matching AS is quite nice also and the scent strength is on the stronger side of things. Love that.

Lovely three pass BBS shave achieved. New day indeed. Topped it off with Guerlain L'Homme Ideal. Take care and safe travels.

Rating: 5 / 5

Razor: Merkur Mergress 500
Blade: Gillette Nacet
Brush: Simpson Chubby 2
Lather: RazoRock American Barber
Aftershave: RazoRock American Barber
Additional Care:
B.I.G. Co. Alum Block
Guerlain L'Homme Ideal

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

1958 Executive/Feather
1964 Macys rebranded silvertip flopmeister
J. Peterman 1903 shaving cream
no after shave needed
YSL pour homme EdT (vintage juice)

The 1903 cream has a very classy scent and is a nice performer as well. Been in the rotation for over 10 years and the box now lists ingredients. Heh, it's made in Ohio.

BBS results,

Martin

Interesting soap - I've never heard of that one before now.

Have had a good shave yesterday since my last post and today I thought I'll try one of my rock bottom price purchases just to see if I can make it work. Don't normally shave every day.
This is a DE razor + 10 Gillette "Saloon Pack" blades, just £3.99. Razor is very light, handle is plastic and head very light, probably made of aluminium. It actually stands up in the sink water! Manufactured in India.
With my usual other equipment, used LEA stick, very good lather from the Yaqi brush and NIVEA Cool Aftershave Locion (bought in Andorra).
My main aim here was to see whether I can get a reasonable shave with an unknown (cheap) razor and blade, using all my skills acquired so far. I was a bit nervous because it's a very light razor and I expected some cuts plus the usual light irritations. But I managed a very passable shave, 3 1/2 passes, almost 99%.
Not a scientific test but to my mind it proves that applying technique (once reasonably mastered) is the key. Plus a reasonable soap well lathered.

Earth Day

Rooney 1/3 Ebony Finest (26/52)
Hemingway Accoutrements shaving cream
Carbon CX-Titanium
Gillette Super Stainless 'Spoiler' (5)
Hemingway Accoutrements aftershave

First use of the razor. It was extremely efficient, easily giving me a BBS shave, but seemed not quite as smooth as my Paradigm 17-4. That may be due partially to its very light weight, which felt great in my hand. The weight and its shallow angle of attack required a bit of adjustment, which was not difficult. And it had excellent auditory feedback. Definitely a keeper.

SOTD Wednesday, April 22, 2020

I'm fortunate to have a 12 razor shave rotation, one quarter of which are AC razors, and the remaining three quarters, DEs. I have many other razors in my collection, but none that I shave with as regularly as this dozen. Every razor in the rotation was selected for its ability to deliver a BBS, but in all honesty, none of the DEs deliver one as easily as my AC razors. My new SS RazoRock Hawk displaced my Gibbs Adjustable. It is now in the regular rotation.

Well, the jury is out on this new AC razor! The SS Hawk V3 is well into the winner's column. It looks like part of a matching set with my @MrEE metal handled brush, and continues to shave like a dream with the Feather Super blade loaded. This morning I mixed my Feather Super clear gel with a dollop of Kapo Menthol Cream and 3 drops of M-Bomb. Evan's Hybrid Badger/Boar brush whipped up an interesting translucent lather which very effectively moisturized my whiskers.

After my shower, and before lathering up, I began my shave with the usual cold water rinse. The Feather Super blade made quick work of my softened whiskers in the first WTG pass. Relathering with my Feather gel/Kapo cream combo for the second and final ATG pass, allowed for another effortless BBS with one minor weeper below my Adam's Apple, which disappeared following the WH application. I feel clean, cool, smooth and refreshed, and ready for another TR6 ride this afternoon! Stay safe and healthy out there!

RAZOR: RazoRock 316L SS Hawk V3 SE
BLADE: Feather Super
PREP: Cold water rinse
BRUSH; MrEE Metal Handled Hybrid Badger/Boar Knot
CREAM/GEL: Feather/Kapo Combo
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with Glyce Glycerin soap followed by Thayers Lavender WH and Fine Accoutrements Snake Bite AS Splash. Finished with A&E Post-Shave Serum

A good train of thought.."Not a scientific test but to my mind it proves that applying technique (once reasonably mastered) is the key. Plus a reasonable soap well lathered."Technique, and shaving confidence are the success to good shaving results IMHO..
Regards. B (y)
PS: i have two chinese tech copies that where gifted to me by a work mate that look the same as your indian purchase...If it works for you, then shave with it...I'll have to give mine a run out, it shaves wonderfully.

RazoRock 400.SE Plissoft noir
Williams Mug soap
Schick Type F
Schick S/S - Japan ( 2 )
Williams Aqua Velva A/S Lotion

This is a super Razor to hold and use during a Shave. Though classed as being mild I have always found it quite effective, especially when fitted with this Japanese blade. A very good close Shave was attained without any problems.

Shaving recipe for today.

Prep: Warm shower / Nivea Men Power Fresh Shower Gel.

Pre:

warm wet flannel to my face.

Simple ~ Sensitive Pure Soap Bar.

Brush: Chinese Unbranded Silvertip Fibre.

Face Lather.

Franken Soap : Arko Derby, + Palmolive Classic Shave Stick Endings.

Blade: Polsilver ~ Super Iridium .(4)

Razor: Parker Variant . (settings) 1.5 wtg, 2. xtg , 3. atg + Pickups.

Post:

Cold Water Face Rinse./Homemade peppermint eucalyptus, Tea Tree , lemon essential Oils + menthol crystals Witch Hazel Mixture./ Pashana ASL.

L'0REAL ~ Reinforcing ASB.

Greetings,

Early morning shave.

Last use of the Polisilver which has performed wonderfully throughout the week keeping a smooth sharp & efficient with no feeling of dulling or dragging during each shave.

Out of the four adjustable de razors i own the parker variant is my favourite. Not because it's my most expensive out of the four no, the overall build weight and most importantly shaving performance i've had from this indian made princess is incredible good each time i've shaved with her. Adding to that, it's matched up with every blade i've paired her up with...All my DE & SE razors are ladies which i treat with the same up most respect.

The arko, derby & palmolive classic shave stick endings frankensoap provided another acceptable superb slick protective lather in a short space of time leaving a nice post shave feel.

The humble shave stick mashed together is something every traditional wet shaver should try at least once, the slick protective lather they create is exceptionally good.

Another enjoyable 3 pass + pick ups silky smooth shave with no errors to report.

Finishing the shave off with some generous dollop of L'0REAL ~ Reinforcing ASB.

My face is feeling smooth & smelling divine. ;)

Stay safe, and enjoy your day ladies & gentlemen.
