SOTD . SATURDAY 28th JULY - FRIDAY 3rd AUGUST 2018.

@Norfolkdick I only have one use each on the E&F plates so I can not really offer an opinion on them. I have used the D plate about 30 times. I have found it to be an exceptionally smooth shaver while being very efficient. I found it to be smoother than the Timeless 0.95mm OC with less blade feel but more efficient. The quality of the craftsmanship is equal to razors costing much more. I will update my thoughts on the other plates when I have used them more. I hope this helps.

The soap: The performance, excellent. The scent. Mmm not sure about it, very sweet.

The shave: Went without issue.

14th DE shave

cf43e59040f648afb7a171f2811bfcad.jpg

Prep: Warm water rinse, BBA Face Wash then BBA Shave Oil
Soap: Proraso White Sensitive
Brush: ES Medium Jock synthetic
Razor: Qshave Futur clone
Blade: Gillette 7 o'clock Super Stainless
Post: Cold rinse, Witch Hazel, LEA aftershave balm.

Another day and another selection from the Newbie Pass Around box. The only DE razor I own is a Merkur 34c so I thought I'd try one of the razors in the box. Step up the Qshave Futur clone. I had no idea about the settings so I went for the middle setting - 3. I also chose a different blade - the Gillette 7 o'clock Super Stainless as kindly recommended and provided by @Blackmass.

Rather than the Proraso pre shave cream or Nuage oil I've used, I gave BBA shave oil a go. Not really much difference though a little goes a long way!

The Proraso sensitive shave soap was pleasant and lathered up easily. Nice and slick application.

Then onto the razor. I could feel the difference straight away with blade making a good sound as it cut through my stubble. I wasn't sure about shaving today as I had a really good shave last night but there was clearly a lot of stubble to come off.

On my neck, just under my chin, I got a reminder about pressure.....on the first pass I had quite a few weepers but nothing to cry about. Live and learn. NO PRESSURE!

The head of the razor is enormous with me pushing my nose in all direction to get right under my nostrils. But I got there eventually.

After a quick clean up and splash from a Witch Hazel bottle that was in the box, I finished with LEA balm. A nice sharp sting then soothing calm.

The shave wasn't as comfortable as I've had with my Merkur 34c, but I think this is what would be classed as a more aggressive shave. I also found that one side of the razor seemed to be different from the other. One side felt more aggressive than the other, even though I was holding the same angle.

Anyway....a nice smooth and refreshed face! Plus I'm now off until Tuesday!

Have a great night folks!

The Qshave Futur has been know to have issues with blade alignment. If you look from above you will the blade exposure is uneven. Also look at the head straight on. The blade will more than likely be at an angle and not flat/horizontal as it should be.
Frankly it's a piece of crap and should be through in the bin.

My advice. Put it back in the box and stick with your 34C.

I concur with your view of the Qshave
I bought two and both were plagued with alignment issues.

Thanks guys. I wasn't wanting to be so blunt as I'm so new to this game and it could've just been inexperience.

The good thing I suppose is I could tell it wasn't as comfortable/good as the 34c and there was something wrong with the blade!

It certainly would've put me off DE shaving if it was the first razor I had ever used.

Glad to be learning as I go along.

I may ask for opinions before I try a different razor again. There are a few others in the box! [emoji1360]

If something doesn't feel right, stop straight away.
I hate the Q shave. I think it's bloody dangerous.

Don't worry about being blunt or giving your opinion. Your views and thoughts are valid. It's your shave and your experience with what you use. It doesn't matter how long you've been shaving.

People respect honest views and opinions on here. We're here to help each other. Not giving your honest views doesn't help anyone.

Stick with it. You're doing brilliantly and your enthusiasm and excitement comes across in your posts.

Remember if you're unsure about something or need any advice just ask.

A Merkur Futur on setting 3 is really quite aggressive, as I found out to my cost.
My first DE was a Futur, and I very soon found out that settings 1 & 2 were the safest way to go early on.

Rob is right, stick with your DE89 while you learn good technique and steer clear of aggressive razors for the time being.

The Qshave/Ming shi 2000s,is a very Love/Hate opinion razor..I was passed on mine from a friend, i also have a spare one too, both of them have good blade enlignment, it is a very aggressive razor, even on it's lowest setting..'as you've found out', and you must be it's master instantly when shaving with one,it also doesn't allow a lack of learning your technique, or lack of concentration if you do it'll bite you for sure, I personally like them, but that's me,and everyone isn't the same as me.... Stick with your 34c for a now, while you learn good technique & shaving confidence. Put the aggressive razors at the back of the trying-out queue for the time being... Regards. B:)
