What a great looking brush you have there, is it a limited edition Omega? P.

Merkur Mergress
Gillette Stainless (1)
PAA Coconut Oud
Alum Block, BBA Post Shave Balm & Ard Al Zaafaran Oud 24 Hours

The blade reminds me of the Gillette Platinum, especially the first use where it isn't completely smooth, if it is like the Platinum it should be much smoother tomorrow. I haven't used this soap in a while, lovely scent and performance, one of the best lathering soaps I have ever used.

Sunday

Soap - OSP Fougére
Brush - RazoRock BC
Face lather
Razor - Gem MMOC
Blade - Gem SS
Post - Thayer's Rose Petal and Aloe Vera
After shave - Floïd MV

A belter of a Sunday shave. The MMOC is a tremendously efficient razor; leaving me BBS after 3 lovely passes. The OSP delivered its usual protective tallowy goodness; with a great post-shave feel. A splash of the Mentally Vigorous and I'm good to go.

Sotd - 20/1/18 - yesterday

Razor - Mergress (3.5)
blade - Super Max SP (3)
brush - Simpsons P8 Phyl LE
soap - Speick cream
post - witch hazel
a/s - Tabac
balm - Weleda.

Result - great.

A couple of firsts in yesterday's shave - a new cream and a new brush to use. Where to start?

The Simpsons P8 was a numbered special edition made for TSN forum in the States. It's an old handle design dusted off from the archives of Simpsons. The knot is roughly comparable to the Duke 3 in size to give you an idea. It's marked as best badger but - as is the case with my Chubby in the same grade - the quality is easily better than some silver tip brushes I own. The handle is exquisite - more Chubby like than Duke - the tortoiseshell resin is gorgeous - the shades and colours shift as you rotate it in the light. I did a fair bit of research before buying it and not one of the pictures I saw of them came anywhere near showing how gorgeous it is in real life. So - very pretty - but does it work? Effortlessly - it's well broken in so it blooms quite a lot when wet - not far off fan shape. Very soft but still maintaining enough 'presence' for face lathering. The flow through is very good indeed - the lather sits in the top third of the knot ready to be given up as required. Like my other Simpsons brushes it oozes class and quality. I couldn't believe it sat on BST for a few days before I bought it - I thought it would have been snapped up immediately. I have been trying to keep a lid on new purchases recently but as soon as I saw it - it was a 'Wayne's World' moment - 'It shall be mine - oh yes!' I'm very happy I did. A classy addition to the den.

I've enjoyed using a double edge for the last couple of shaves - being that I was blind to anything other than vintage single edges for the latter part of last year. I'll maybe dig out the Slant and Aristocrat and use them for a while for a bit of variety.

First use of the Speick cream - it's intrigued me for a while - I know that both the cream and the stick have their fans here. It was a generous surprise gift from Barry - @Barry Giddens - thank you mate. It performed really well - the only slight down side is that it wasn't the slickest I've ever used but I am 100% sure that this was operator error - a combination of too much cream and not enough water - in my own defense - because the brush was also new to me I had no idea how much moisture the knot retains when shaken out before loading. I'll know the next time. The lather was plenty dense and stable - I really liked the spicy herbal/lavender scent. It smelled 'medicinal' - so it must be doing you good. Face feel before the post treatment was excellent. The Tabac and Weleda were an obvious choice to finish off with. No scent - as I find that the Tabac really does linger for an aftershave. A great shave - I enjoyed that a lot. Hope you enjoy yours too - yours - I.

Oh - thanks also to @mattyb240 - who I picked up the brush from. A seamless and gentlemanly transaction.

A 'Mystery' SOTD today with a new product...all I can say is it was a fantastic shave!

It's a great shame it was discontinued, if it was down to the cost of the rose oil I'm sure folk would have gladly paid more for the soap, I would have anyway.
I like rose as a scent, a rose is neither feminine or masculine, it is just a rose, the same goes for the scent in my opinion.
I'm sure you will savor the delightful scent of this soap for some time to come. :) P.
