Using the pass around Supply SE and loaded with a new Schick injector blade. Glorious lather with the ever-shedding Midas brush! I'll be looking at Ian Teng's knots, with thanks to @wazza for the recommendation. Voicing some other opinions, I didn't quite know how to hold this to start, and the plate number is on the reverse of the plate as you look at it, so unscrewing it and having a look was the first port of call. I loaded her up, tried to find a suitable grip and got to work. Again, as others have mentioned previously, it is a little tricky to find the angle... sort of. It definitely cuts at quite a varied angle but there's no true determinant for that 'sweet-spot'. I changed up my angle throughout the passes but have fairly little audible feedback whilst amending two day's growth. One pass XTG to start, South to North, on my neck gave me a so-so feel for the razor. I re-lathered and went with the grain. The two 'notches' on either side (seem to inform you of the optimal angle) traced through the lather on my neck but I found it relatively difficult to make a worthwhile contact.

I cleaned up after these two passes and realised that 80% of the stubble had been reduced - not gone, as I'm getting used to, but simply shortened. I look a lot cleaner, for sure, but there's still a grittiness to my skin. For comparison, I'd say if my neck was 240 grit sandpaper before, it was 600 grit now. No irritation or weepers to mention as a result of this exceptionally mild shaver. I'll be trying on plate 3 next time but it needs to make a substantial difference or I'm going to find issue with this herein.

All up, it's a shame it didn't work so well for me as I absolutely love the look of this razor. It's minimalistic and smooth, hefty but somewhat uncomfortable (of course, YMMV). I really wanted to like this razor on its first outing but first impressions are less than I'd hoped. For the everyday shaver I can see where it has its merits (i.e. mildness) but for me, shaving every couple/few days, I'm happier with something considerably more aggressive.

Wed 7th June

Vulfix 404 mixed
Vitos Red croap
Gem OCMM- Brass smooth plate
Gem S/S coated [ 2 ]
Alum Rub/Rinse off
Myrsol Antesol A/S lotion

A really enjoyable shave with the Gem,as I find it to be a very good razor when used with a light touch.Always veer towards an old favourite soap when using the Gems, as find them to suit the more vintage razors.Apart from a small weeper caused by my enthusiasm to get a good finish at the edge of the lip, the shave was smooth and comfortable.

The peformance of the new Gem powered razors will have to be very good, to match th shave quality that can be attained with the OCMM.

I think once you have put the more aggressive plate on and sus out the correct angle of attack you may find it more to your liking. :)

I think the more aggressive plate is certainly the first improvement to be made. Angle is obviously a little off but I'm not finding it wholly intuitive. Compared to the last two razors I've received, a RR Black Hawk and Thomas Clipper Mk1, this is far less obvious where the angle lies.
I used a Schick injector blade, one which came with the pass around box... I couldn't tell you off the top of my head which it was...

@Far Cry Toff was having a similar problem with finding the correct angle and I suggested to him holding thr razor on his forearm where he could see the blade in relation to the angle and after trying that he has had great success......worth a try, you don't have to shave your arm, just check out the optimum angle for shaving and once you know what it is it just falls into place. :)

I don't know what is in the box now but I sent it out with Personna blades seeing as they were supplied with the supply.

You will not regret one of his knots. Look forward to seeing it complete. Great photo btw

I think they're still in there, if they're the ones in the white injector housing.

Thanks! I'll definitely be buying one before long...then asking for tips and tricks for knot replacements! :D I've got another brush in the post to tide me over until then...and the 30mm Maseto brush which is simply astounding value for money! :D

Yep, they are the ones, some people like them in the Supply so maybe worth a shot.....this is one of the problems with this size of injector razor.....not many blades to choose from unless you start cutting AC blades to size.
