Your first De razor

Started with a Edwin jagger DE89 and still it's my go to razor brought it two years ago on eBay for £12, I've had a few other razors and all too aggressive for me...only other razor that give me a comfortable shave is the hone 15 I has on a pass around, I need to buy one but £100 is always needed on other things :(
The Hone type 15 is a great razor, I hope you are able to get one sometime. :)

My first DE was a German butterfly (can't remember the make), which I inherited from my Grandpa about 35 years ago-loved it and used nothing else for donkeys years until it got stolen (I know who you are....).
Broke, I got a Wilkinson Sword Classic and soldiered on with that for a few years, until blades became an issue (I kept it, and my wife now uses it). A few years of cartridges, gels and skin irritation followed, until, remembering the lovely shaves of my youth, I picked up a £4 Chinese DE, a stick of Arko (silence at the back, please) and some Derbys. Shaving is now a pleasure with my EJ, and I'm sure will continue to be so!

There are so many people who have started with the R89 then the R41, there has to be something in that! And the fact that most of us got RAD as soon as we started to frequent forums . I still use an R41 but still regret selling the R89, I may get another one day, maybe just the head though. :)

Yes, seems to be the most popular starter and it's not hard to see why, really. It's got clean, simple, elegant looks; it feels right in the hand and shaves well. It is a world away from the tacky, weightless, plasticky cartridge jobs, yet forgives the cack-handed early technique most of us have. I just knew I wouldn't go back to cartridges, once I'd used the R89 (although I do have a Mach 3 in a lightweight wash kit - don't tell anyone).

While the first DE razor I bought was a Wilkinson classic, my second DE, the Fatip Gentile, is what really got me started with wet shaving. I read alot online about different razors and decided to skip the usually sugested EJ89/R89 since I didn't want to waste my time with zamak razors.
Still use the Fatip, maybe not the gentlest beginners razor, but would recommend and would buy again.

For me, R41 and Personna red are wining combination.

I just got the R 41 last week and being a shitebag put a derby in it. One shave later I had my favorite 7'oclock yellow which is my go blade for the ej89. Got a cracking shave with the yellow. The personna red is the next one for me to try.

...started with the 39c then purchased the R89 and R41. Still love the R89 and the R41. The R89 in winter with a Shark blade gives me a just so shave, sure I have to work it a little more but what a beautifully balanced design. The R41 for me is a tour de force and my admiration has not waned. This razor with a feather blade gives such a deep and close shave. The 39c lost its shine for me but mostly because I find it somewhat bulky, I may purchase a 37c...

Still using it? If so, what blade?
Alternating the blades using a feather Hi-stainless, and a Personna.

I find if I have a heavy grow of a couple of days the R41 and feather do the business. The R89 with the Personal is an easier shave. What I have learned since moving to the Claymore SE is my skin doesn't cope with ATG shave. I'm better going with and XTG. No rashes, or bumps.

I will go back to the R89 and R41, but growing the winter plumage at the moment.
