I've been reading off and on about this cold water shaving malarkey and thought I'd give it a bash this evening. Pleasantly surprised: I thought it would be a 'tuggy' affair; but not at all. Went with the milder razor and blade option, in case I removed my face. Nice and smooth: between DFS and BBS. 3 passes (apart from sides of neck; WTG and XTG).

Anyhoo...

Usual pre with Bulldog. Except for the rinse...which was cold. Then Proraso Green pre-shave.

Brush: Semogue 1470
Soap: Saponificio Varesino Tundra Artica (sample - still going strong)
Face lather
Razor: 1968 Gillette Travel Tech
Blade: Personna Israeli Red #2
Post: Thayer's, Proraso Green a/s
Nivea asb
Fragrance: L'Occitane Eau de Cedrat EDT
Music: Brian Eno: The Ship

Hope this finds you all well.

Mike's Soaps orange, cedar wood & black pepper
RazoRock
"Bruce" synthetic bush

DFS, however I can never seem to get the last bit of smoothness out of Gillette India blades as those made in Russia. I think it's subjective as many seem to feel the reverse is true. Go figure.

Wed 10th Aug

Omega s10065
OSP Bay Rum
Schick Dial Adjuster
Schick S/S Twin [ 5-Japan ]
Alum Rub & Rinse
Myrsol Antesol A/S

Another quick shave today with this Razor / Blade combination ,so as to clear the bathroom for visitors. Doing it quickly did not detract from the shave quality ,which seems to improve as the blade gets used more.

My first shave today with a Rolls Razor Viscount model. This was NOS which was brought back to life by our very own @Fergiebilly. After a hesitant and awkward first pass where I tried to find the correct angle and left my neck alone I moved onto a more confident second pass and onto my neck. Second and third passes were much better and I enjoyed them. Unbelievably, I had no nicks, no weepers, no irritation, I couldn't believe that considering it was my first time. I ended up nearly DFS, but not quite, though I'm still happy!

I'd recommend anyone to try one of these out, they really aren't as scary as they look! Just make sure someone who knows what they are doing gets it all ready for you!

thursday shave..jpg
Shaving recipe for today.
  • warm shower./ Imperial Leather Peppermint & Eucalyptus shower gel. / warm wet flannel to my face.
  • Razor: Parker 99R.
  • Blade:Gillette 7o'Clock SharpEdge. (new)
  • Brush: Semogue 1470.
  • Soap: Wilkinson sword shave bowl. + 4 drops of glycerin in mixing bowl.
  • Warm wet flannel/ cold wet flannel to rinse my face.
  • Witch Hazel./Nivea men Creme.
  • Post :Lucky Tiger Aftershave & Face Tonic.

  • Today i decided to use the Wilkinson Sword shave bowl again,.i've learn't a valuable lesson and that is my Semogue is the brush of choice when i'm using my wilkinson sword shave bowl, i've only used my Parker 99R a dozen times or so since i bought her,.all my DE razors are ladies which i treat with respect, if i don't, they will give me a nasty bite. !:D..anyway the combo of the Parker 99R & the new russian 7o'Clock sharp edge blade gave me, the best ultra smooth no irritation shave that i've had since i've started DE shaving..on a scale of 1 to 10 my shave's are normally between 7-9 but today it was 10+:).maybe it was new blade, or i'm finally receiving the best technique of what i'm applying when shaving..wonderful shave, Russian blades are superb";).have a great day.
