SOTD Saturday 23rd April - Friday 29th April

Greetings

Tuesday 26th April 2016
Prep: Shower
Razor: Valet Autostrop Canadian
Blade: Valet (Early type without cut outs)
Brush: Duke 3
Soap: Tabac Stick Grated
Aftershave: Astral Cream (soft)
EDP: L'Instant De Guerlain Extreme

A very good close shave but lacking a good deal in terms of comfort, I have made this old blade plenty sharp enough but it lacks 'finesse' and produces a harsh shave. Part of the problem when 'playing about' with these old blades is that you can never tell if you are trying to make a silk purse from a sows ear, it is impossible to tell prior to stropping and using them how good a blade you have to start with! These early blades without the cut outs are now seventy odd years old!

Another issue is the pressure on the strop is largely controlled by the strop and not the person stropping, a thicker strop forces the blade harder onto the strop and using too thin a strop produces insufficient friction to turn over the blade resulting in cutting the strop in two on the turnover stroke!

Regards
Dick.

La Toja stick

Another reminder of how good these Injectors are. Four days growth of whiskers wiped away with ease.

Noxema preshave cream
Fendrihan DE / GSB
Parker pure badger / Cella
WH / Jack Black Post Shave Cooling Gel

Nice shave this morning. I haven't used my Parker Badger for a while and I realize this is a fine instrument. This brush and Cella got along just fine...they were great friends in no time. Note to self: use Parker Badger more frequently. Enjoy your day gents.

Good morning friends. Very nice shave this morning with the V3A. Palmolive Cool Menthol is such a nice cold creamy, slick treat.:) Stirling MITA balm finished this shave off with more freezing, soothing goodness. Have a great shave and a great day guys. :)

Hot Towel, Phoenix & Beau Sanskrit, Omega 48, RazoRock Bazooka, Astra SP(9), Cold Towel, Old Spice

A face lather today after my usual prep. This produced heady, exotic scents that mesmerise first thing in the morning. Oddly, even after 9 days, the Astra SP feels as good as new, I could have found my new favourite blade. Sanskrit protected well and left my skin feeling great. I finished off the shave with a splash of Old Spice to compliment the great fragrance of the soap.

It's nice to see someone else using the RR Bazooka handle, it's a fine looking stout, weighty handle. :)
