Your Top 3 DE Blades ?

Blades are possibly the most diverse variable in wet shaving.
As some others have said, some blades perform very well in some razors, but much less so in others.

My most reliable blade in all the DE razors I've used is Gillette Silver Blue (double wrapped).
It simply suits whatever razor i load it in.
Smoothness and sharpness in equal measure.

Second, I would say is Voskhod.
Possibly on par with GSB smoothness.
I have a stash of these blades but rarely use them.

Third. Now this is where it gets tricky. . .
Gillette Platinum ain't what they used to be (double wrapped) blades were definitely smoother.
Astra SP were a favourite at one time, but not used them for years now.
Astra SS (Superior Stainless) in the dark blue/white pack were very good. Again, I haven't used those in years.
Polsiver Wizamet Stainless (brown pack) would feature a lot in my shaves if they were readily available - and didn't cost a bloody fortune.
I have maybe 100 of these left, and use them very sparingly.
7/8 good, smooth shave per blade.

A subjective question, the answer very much depends upon the criteria set. I've only really had experience with about a dozen different blades and have no doubt that exotic hardware exists that performs brilliantly but may be expensive or unobtainable.

If the criteria is; does it give a good close shave, can I get half a dozen shaves from a single blade, is it inexpensive and can I easily buy more when I need them?, my top 3 DE blades would be:

1. Bic CP
2. Bic CP
3. Bic CP

Currently £8.21 for 100 from Amazon with free next day delivery with Prime for UK customers. I enjoy experimenting with different kit but even when using my second best razor, blade, soap or brush, part of me is thinking - why don't you just use the best?

I get that mindset as its an efficient way to go, but if i hadn't trialed loads of blades then i wouldnt have found a few that i love and can interchange if needed , but agreed for Bic CP at the price and if you get a good shave i would be working out how many i need to last me to end of days and write done in the blades box.

I'm like that with Perma Sharps, affordable and a great experience every time.

Then a tie: Tiger Superior Stainless (not the modern production carbon blades but the yellow and white stainless packs probably made in the 1990s) and Astra Keramik.

If it's just current production we're choosing from then:
Super Iridium
London Bridge (Chinese production)
Super Thin Platinum (I grew to appreciate their smoothness and versatility in various razors over time)

If you feel your Voskhod are getting lonely and a bit upset at being left in a drawer
i can give them a very happy life :)

Its 100% a thing that theres different blades for different folks, i dont get on with Voshkods or Bic CP , it seems like a cop out when asked about the "Best" blades when you reply , " get a sample pack as you will need to find what works for you " there is generally some Goldilocks blades - and from everything i have ever read i do believe its Astra Green , whilst not my top i'd happily use them till end of days.

what’s one man junk is another man’s treasure lol.
Iv always liked Voskhod from my early days in shaving and i didn’t get on with Astra although i do like them now.
Same with personna i never liked them i do now.
When you’re new it’s probably all down to technique and not the actual blade i would presume.
The second blade i ever bought was the Feather & i really liked it,
couple of years later i didn’t like it lol
we’re a fickle bunch.
The last time i used a feather i liked it but that does remind me i haven’t used one in a long time so need to get them used.
What’s your thoughts on the Super Thin Platinum,
London Bridge & Gillette Blues ?
 
Over the last year or two I've been gravitating towards just using Techs for most of my shaves, maybe 60-70% of all shaves?

Techs seem to work with most blades, sometimes I will come across a blade that's too sharp to begin with (eg Personna PDG) or a blade that's not sharp enough (eg Supermax Blue Diamond Platinum) and I'll have a bit of post shave irritation or not the closest shave. Aside from that I've come to appreciate most good blades will perform really well in a Tech.

So it might sound like a really boring statement, but I have no favourite blades anymore.

spot on , no idea where i bought them if i didnt get given them , the Japanese flagged Super Thins are made in China and connaught sells them . @SpeedyPC
