When I started out DE shaving, I landed on the SuperMax Blue Diamond Titanium as the blade I could happily use forever, bought in loads ... and promptly moved on to single edge, shaving with the 1912 pretty much exclusively for some years after. The last year, or so, I've been shaving with double edge again, and re-appraising many blades.

This time around, I've dropped the SuperMax Blue Diamond Titanium down to an 8/10 with many offerings from Lord and Treet working out for me much better.

But, I'm curious about the SuperMax stable again and understand that the old SuperMax Blue Diamond Titanium (and Platinum) has been retired. There appears to be a new package Platinum and Stainless, Super Stainless and then there's the ones marketed as Vidyut.

Confuzzled! Can someone talk me through what's available now and how it all fits together?

I thought it might be @donnie_arko (y)

I actually have some of those Platinum blades (that very pack @Boycie83 ) after reading about how highly they're recommended. Actually, I hated the shave and put it down there as one of my least rated! I tried a second and again, just did not like it. Perhaps I got the wrong Platinum, as I can see there is another design ... whether it's the same blade in different packaging, I don't know.

I wonder about Platinum, and wonder if I just don't like it ... but commented on another thread that my three highest rated blades are all platinum, so go figure. That said, those blades that I highly rate are considered as worse than shaving with a rusty Cola can by some folks.

Blades are strange aren't they? It would be easy to assume they must be all the same yet they're probably the most 'divisive' of hardware when it comes to opinions on them.

I remember picking up some of the Blue Diamond Titaniums you mentioned and they were dirt cheap - something like £4 delivered for 100. I expected them to be rubbish but found them fantastic.

I'm not entirely sure but I think it goes in the following way, but, I have not used any of the Stainless varieties

Stainless/Super Stainless - Smooth, but not too sharp
Platinum Variants - Sharper than the Stainless varieties

I've only used 3 varieties of Supermax blades, all Platinum. The Supermax Blue Diamond Platinum, doesn't work in any of my Gillette razors aside from an Aluminium Tech, and my more efficient Yaqi razors. The Supermax Super Platinum, I tried a few months ago in my Gillettes and was underwhelmed with it. The Supermax Platinum Plus, from what I remember wasn't great for the first shave but smoothed for a shave or two afterwards.

It gets more confusing though, Supermax also make blades for more brands aside from Vidyut, also make them for Zorrik. I used a Zorrik Titanium which seemed to perform about the same as the Supermax Super Platinum.

Hmmm ... okay, here's what I can find ...

SuperMax Blue Diamond Titanium - Discontinued
SuperMax Blue Diamond Platinum - these are the ones in the link above
>SuperMax Diamond Edge Super Platinum (Swedish Steel) - black pack w/white writing and blue diamond
>SuperMax Platinum Plus (Superior Platinum Coated Blades) - white/blue (horizonal stripe) pack
Vidyut SuperMax Platinum - white/azure (diagonal stripe) pack
Zorrick Super Platinum (New Spurrered Blade Technology) - white/silver pack
SuperMax Super Platinum - white tuck with three blue lines < apparently comparable with the Titanium blades?
SuperMax Super Stainless - green pack with three yellow lines
>SuperMax Super Stainless (Blue) - blue pack w/yellow logo
*(Vidyut) SuperMax Super Stainless - technically SuperMax with a big V on blue pack with diagonal writing
SuperMax Stainless - blue/orange/white (curve stripe) pack
*Vidyut SuperMax Stainless (Economy Pack) - burgundy/yellow pack
(Vidyut) Zorrick Super Stainess - technically Zorrick bu with small Vidyut logo in yellow pack with red/black yinyang
Zorrick Supreme Stainless - white/red (wavy stripe) pack

Confusing, innit?

Bold lines are the three that a listed on SuperMax global website.
Crossed out indicates known discontinued.
Italic are where stock appears to be dwindling, based on availability through eBay/Amazon.
* appear to be (still) widely available.
> appear to be Indian market (only?)

So, given what is shown on the website I guess they've consolidated their lines into the SuperMax Blue Diamond Platinum as the premium class, the green pack SuperMax Super Stainless as to go to blade and perhaps the Zorrick Supreme Stainless as an economy blade.

I guess Vidyut are still kicking around and have the V SuperMax Super Stainless as the go to and the burgundy pack Vidyut SuperMax Stainless (Economy Pack) as their economy blade. As for the Zorrick Super Platinum (New Spurrered Blade Technology) in the white/silver pack, it still seems to be available but I can't find much on it.

There's also the SuperMax Diamond Edge Super Platinum (Swedish Steel) which sounds very much like the old SuperMax Blue Diamond Titanium and even has a blue diamond on the pack.

SuperMax Blue Diamond Titanium-very nice blades. Smooth and sharp, comparable to a Gillette Platinum or Astra SS. Discontinued, but still findable online in packs of 10.
SuperMax Blue Diamond Platinum-very aggressive, harsh blades. If you can handle Shark Super Chrome, Feather or Kai you should have no issue with these. For me they only work for the first shaves in a very mild razor. Once they mellow out they can be used without a care in the world in any razor.
SuperMax Diamond Edge-medium sharpness, very smooth. Maybe better for shorter beards and lighter hair. Kind of tough to find. Only available directly from India.
SuperMax Super Platinum-comparable to the Blue Diamond Titanium but much harder to find. Discontinued several years ago.
SuperMax Super Stainless-very smooth and mild blades. For short growth or when you need a very gentle shave.

... and from 'Bayman'

Super-max blue diam titanium 10/10
Super-max super stainless 9/10
Super-max platinum 8/10

... so it would appear that the blades worth buying (the SuperMax Blue Diamond Titanium and SuperMax Super Platinum in the white pack with three blue lines) are both discontinued, while the current SuperMax Super Stainless in the green pack with three yellow lines (of the style of the discontinued SuperMax Super Platinum) are worth a punt.

Gotta say, there's something about the economy Vidyuts that appeals to me. I'll likely try a puck of those, otherwise use up my stash of SuperMax Blue Diamond Titaniums and be happy.

Just had a quick check on eBay:

100 x Diamond Edge = £6.49

100 x Super Platinum = £7.99

I've bought from the Indian seller before with no problems.

I have tried Two Types - Platinum Plus in first Picture were Smooth and medium Sharp and The Blue Diamond Platinum as in Chris's @Boycie83 pic and they were very good sharp and smooth in my opinion.

Of the 2 i preferred The Blue Diamond Platinum .

i've tried these two of these super max before, many of the asian groceries shops seem to have them around here in birmingham

also got these in my teens when i first got a shavette

found both to be sharp but i prefered the blue pack in the first pic

I reckon the burgundy/yellow pack is a real budget blade and possibly not coated. The blue pack will almost certainly be coated (likely with teflon). The coating gives a smoothness to the shave, allowing the blade to glide along as well as the sharpness to cut through hair. I'm intrigued by the burgundy/yellow blades (probably because they remind me of the Treet Black Beauty, which I love) and will get some ... I don't mind a fierce shave o_O Once you've shaved with a fresh GEM blade in a 1912, you can handle literally anything double edge!

I know SuperMax is phenomenally popular in India (and probably Pakistan), while Pakistan makes the Treet blades. I like Treet blades a lot! I think there's some gems to be had from SuperMax, but it's a struggle figuring it out from the bewildering array you can see from the list above - when people say the "Super Platinum" is a great blade, just which Super Platinum do they mean?

I saw the burgandy/yellow pack for sale in shop in India (that only sold supplies to barbers) and they seemed to be the cheapest blades sold in India. I can't know for sure, but I have some of the lower tier DE blades are used by barbers not for shaving but for tidying up hairlines with a shavette.
In India, I seemed to get the impression the sharper the blade, the more expensive it is, with the Gillette 7 Black being 55 INR for 10 blades.

FWIW, I don't think it's made by Supermax, but the best subcontinent blade I have used is the Lancet Super Platinum; it's similar to the Gillette 7 Black but a little smoother. Worth trying via ebay for 5 for 99p. I know @Palmolive fox is a fan of it as well.
It seems to be the best blade I have used for my Gillette Old Type, and Souplex Bakelite razor.
