I have to say that The Road to Wigan Pier is the book that hasn't left me, although it's been many years since reading it.Great review. Be aware if you ever get round to reading Down and Out in Paris and London you may never set foot in a restaurant again...
May I ask what the different colours represent between the waypoints?

That is the same MacDonald who wrote The Flashman Papers? Wonderful books, well-researched.I have always been interested in WW2, & having discovered my grand father served in the Forgotten Army in Burma - decided to do some research. Quartered Safe Out Here, it turns out is supposed to be one of the best books about the Burma Campaign. That's according to historians! If it's good enough for James Holland, its good enough for me
Great book. Very readable, and it helps relays the horrors of this particular campaign.

This was written before he was PM. He is an excellent historian, and it's a page turner. I recommend.
